BTW, I believe that RGS was the kingpin of a major bootlegging operation during his Middle East posting (which is how he amassed his billions), so maybe he can give you a few pointers on how to make pure alcohol from crushed and liquidized camels. I hope it was not he that was responsible for that stuff that was delivered in Lux Dishwasher bottles one night in Tehran.

Sloanes isn't a British brand, they're based in Bangkok. Good stuff, though, especially the sausages. Check out Marks and Spencer for a true taste of the British middle classes - quite a few Central malls have an outlet now. ...thanks for the info...Central Chitlom supermarket has part of an aisle dedicated to M&S...that's my next stop: can't wait to find out what Brit middle class tastes like...

I think you should rephrase that.

Passion Delivery has some decent bits and pieces....their halloumi grilled on toast is particularly tasty.
Its all by grades really with cheese....but I recommend a good sharp cheddar with some small pickled onions.
Goes well with those ales and the Jacob's crackers too!

Actually if you are seriously into cheese there is a selection in Dean and Deluca in Central Embassy which is by far the best I have found in Bangkok. The only place I have seen Montgomery cheddar on sale in Bangkok. Go and gaze at it lovingly or bring several credit cards .

A bit off topic but it does involve an English product For many years I worked the gold mines in Western Australia. I worked in many mines all over the Goldfields. Many of these mines were established in the 1890's. I had a friend who was a avid collector of old bottles and he was always asking me to go to the rubbish dump at the mine to see if I could find any old bottles. On a couple of occasions I obliged, and to my surprise I found old bottles of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire Sauce. Hundreds of them. I found very few other bottles. There were surprisingly no beer bottles to be found but then I realised that in those days all beer bottles were recycled and no doubt had a deposit on them. When I went to the UK with my Japanese/Australian ex-wife one of the things that she wanted to see was the factory in Worcester. I obliged. Thank goodness you can get it here. Local substitutes aren't bad but they don't really cut the Colmans mustard. (being pedantic, there is no 'e' in their mustard.)

Good thing those pesky Dutchmen did not steal that like they did the HP stuff.

The problem with M&S in Thailand is that the range is very limited and the products that they do have are vastly overpriced. The last time that I looked into a M&S in Thailand was about 14 years ago and the price of a single serving Christmas Pudding was 500 Baht. FFS, you can get a great full sized Christmas Pudding (with high brandy content) from Bunter's for around 100 Baht.

A Bloody Mary doesnt taste right unless L&P has been used, accept no substitute.

I solved that problem by buying Mount Gay rum. Still partial to the odd Brandy Sour, never been anyplace in Thailand that can knock up a decent one.

About 2 months ago I noticed that Foodland were fresh out of L&P and instead had stocked their shelves with an American made version. I mean, FFS a Worcester Sauce made outside of the UK, I thought of boycotting Foodland but I need their black bacon for my bacon lover's pizzas. Luckily they have now returned to stocking L&P.

They had Stinking Bishop and proper Colston Bassett stilton last time I looked. Oh someone at D&D knows their cheese.
