THE white powder allegedly found inside Perth teenager Jamie Murphy’s bumbag is not drugs and is most likely paracetamol, Bali police sources have told News Corporation. Whilst police have yet to make any official statement about the laboratory results on the 1.46 grams of white powder, sources have told News Corporation that it appears to be pain medication, most likely paracetamol. Sources have also confirmed that blood and urine tests on Murphy have tested negative for drugs. Mr Murphy’s lawyer Desy Widyantari says she believes the tests on white powder found in his bumbag are negative for drugs. Ms Widyantari visited the teenager in Kuta police station this afternoon. After the meeting she said she had yet to receive the official results from police but understands the white powder has been tested negative for drugs, as revealed exclusively by News Corp earlier today. www.news.com.au/world/asia/wa-teen-questioned-by-bali-police-after-arrest-at-kuta-nightclub/news-story/fd9fc660d2b2517cc79d796bd51d87b8

One thing that boils my p**s about SE Asia in general is the stone age drug laws. Death or life in jail for a few pills but run a cop down in a Ferrari and it's a slap on the wrist and a blind eye turned.

However there are signs at every border crossing, in English, warning of the consequences. People have to be a special kind of stupid to ignore them. I'm happy that's all it was.

Ok devils advocate here...can you buy para in powder form, in aussie/bali ? I know in South Africa you can, but you cant in Aussie/bsli, can kinda see their point in arresting him
Even not being a illegal drug, could it not have been a trail run for the real stuff ?

At this stage of life, the only white powder they would find in my luggage or room would be itchy groin powder. i64.tinypic.com/e6bp1i.jpg

Yes exactly what I thought....I have only ever seen tablets and they would not be easy to crush into 1.41 grams of "white powder".
Fishy or attention seeking behaviour.

He bought it in the streets, typical Aussie end of year footy trip kinda idiot, thought it was cocaine probably, only to find cops 10 steps later waiting to arrest him.
Drunk kid, mum and dad won't be too pleased, but his mates got a laugh.
Turns out his cocaine was paracetamol.
He's glad he got ripped off now.

Guess so, the reason i suggested know of people in SA being pulled in at the airport by the rozzers because they were carrying a headache medicine called "Grandpa's" which comes as powdered para, and to be honest it does look like Peruvian marching powder But then 1.6gms is afair amount to be carrying...

Thing is and i stand to be corrected, if he bought the stuff or carried the stuff beliving it to be an illegal substance, think they can still charge him in certain countries, ie the act is criminal, as the intent was criminal

I think in certain countries if you buy a suspious white powder from a man on the street corner thinking its nose candy, and it turns out to be corn starch, when the rozzers bust you, they can still charge you as i understand it, under English law the maxim, "the act is criminal, if the intent is criminal" would apply ie you intended to buy an illegal substance, irrespective if powder concerned turned out to be not what you thought

Death or life in jail for a few pills but run a cop down in a Ferrari and it's a slap on the wrist and a blind eye turned. The problem isn't so much the "stone age drug laws", it's that wealth has its privileges. If Vorayudh "Boss" Yoovidhaya had been founded with a basket full of pills he'd still not be behind bars. That's one of the advantages of being a scion of an obscenely wealthy family. Oh, and he didn't even have "a slap on the wrist" for his crimes.
