Now that's the 'spirit' "Bored pensioner Joe Bartley lands job after work plea A bored 89-year-old who put an ad in a paper saying he wanted a job has been offered work at a bar and restaurant. Ex-serviceman Joe Bartley from Devon made headlines around the world with the plea in the Herald Express, saying he was dying of boredom and wanted a job. Kate Allen from the Cantina Kitchen and Bar in Paignton said: "Not many people are that pro-active, let alone an 89-year-old, so I could not let him go. "I liked him straight away when I spoke to him on the phone."" www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-devon-38169575

Good on him ! Love hearing stories like this. Shaming the lazy, able-bodied sods who live off the government handouts. He should be given a medal.
Before I went into hospital last year I was working in Gunnedah NSW, in the coal mining industry. We used a local trucking company to cart machinery to and from the mines, and one of the truck drivers was 85 years old. Used to get around these low loaders chaining things down like a guy half his age. He was telling me that he actually retired the day he turned 65 and only lasted a week, was bored out of his mind. A job came up with that same trucking company and he was still with them 20 years later.
