I used to walk right from the Prakanong markets all down to Siam square then over to my Office in Pat Pong. The busses used to be too crowded and it was a nice walk in the mornings.

I used to catch taxis between Pratunam and Nana, used to take forever in the traffic. Decided to walk it one day, took the same time on foot. Walked as far as soi 39 one time, from Nana, that was a big one. Down one side and back up the other. Walked from Indra to the Australian Embassy in the morning, that was ok, by the time I wanted to go back it was so hot I cabbed it.
Years ago in Hanoi I was walking up to 30km in a day, exploring the city. It would kill me now, the most I can do on a good day is 6km.

You ventured all the way past Asoke to the wilds of Phrom Phong? What an adventurer.
Judging that part of town by the shitty end of Suk is like saying Central London has little to offer because Leicester Square is a tourist trap. Amazing how some people seem to spend so much time there and yet see so little.

Should have got the boat from Soi 3, Nana Nuea, takes you straight to pratunam, costs about 8 baht.

Amazing how some people seem to spend so much time there and yet see so little. He has done more than most, many never make it any futher than Soi Cowboy. The shitty end of Suk, , I remember when the Nana Plaza was full of, pharmacies, travel agents and restaurants, long before soi 4 was turned into the shithole it is today. www.bangkokpost.com/archive/bangkok-sleazy-street-of-shame/30100As for adventuring, try taking a walk from Phrom Phong to Soi Pridi the back way, will bring you out on about soi 29 right next to the snooker hall. Be amazed at the leafy laned sois, where Mark lives, mansions that look like Versailles Palace, perfectly manicured lawns (you could play bowls on) the size of football parks, check out where the Japanese and Korean elite live. Never mind I prefer to take the road less travelled, Suk for me means, soi 62, Imperial World Sam Rong and Samut Prakarn. There is nothining in Suk for me, personally these days I prefer, Lat Prao, Pattanakran, Pethcaburi, Pra Ram 9 and Sri Nakarin. Buhi proably knows the beer complex at the back of Seacon (?)

Good man, I take it you mean the Suk end where the ASEAN Dept store used to be? Right across the soi was the market with the Cinema, sadly long gone. The heart and soul was ripped out of that area by the Tom Yam Kung crisis. Not mentioned, this was before the BTS ever made it up that way, when soi Pridi was a great place to stay. Sadly, Klong Tan market looks as if it is next for the knackers yard, and some call this carnival progress

If you think a simple walk like that in daylight hours in a relatively safe city like Bangkok, which is not war-torn, is an adventure then you must have lived a very sheltered life back in Jolly Old England ! Lucky you didn't migrate to Australia when you were little like a lot of my mates did. And as smart as you appear to be, in my case you don't know just how much of Bangkok I have seen. I may have even seen places you have not. I bet I have been to places in Asia you haven't, but that does not make me an authority on the place.

The only good thing I remember of Suk were both food related - the little kebab shop on Soi Nana just off Suk, and Tony Ramonas. The rest of it that I saw when I walked it on many occasions, sucked ! How far down it did you walk? Looks like its just the two of us for drinks at the Commons.

Currently staying on Soi 8 for the sake of convenience- must say it is a very peaceful soi. For living it's burbs all the way for me. It took an hour to downtown from Rangsit for me. Enjoyed being out of the madness and it goes without saying that the cost of living was much lower. With Future Park 20 mins away and a giant Tesco that stocks western food it can hardly be called bahn nok either.

Rang Sit these days is considered a suburb of Bkk, same same places such as Lam Luk Ha and Mae Sai.

^ Victory Monument- the one hour timing was pretty dependent on when you left the house. The 538 bus would take 1.5 hours and cost less than 15 baht I think.

Of course we also have the country pad complete with 25m swimming pool and fabulous streetside dining a short walk away. Its good to have options. Also love having the best OJ stand across the road there....60 Baht OJ....but worth every satang. Putain. 60 baht for a BJ that's good value.
