Watching the day to day life on our soi is one of my favourite pastimes, as I walk the length of it countless times almost every day during my walking regime. It's 170 mtrs from the end of our soi down to where soi 4 ends, so it's easy to keep track of the kms. (6 x 170 = 1020 mtrs or near enough to 1 km) Lots of local dogs in that area to keep me amused. The other day our 4 legged neighbour Mi Poo was sitting in the middle of the soi staring at another dog who sat in the middle of the soi as well about 50 mtrs away. This staring contest lasted for ages, they were like statues. Not sure who won but later on they were getting on well enough, so there were no grudges held. Our two live inside now as there was a bit of a scare of someone poisoning dogs and we let them inside for a few days and they refused to leave.....sent the baiif with the eviction papers for them and they scared him off so inside they stay. They have staring and barking contests regularly.....would think they mean real trouble but it is all an act. I think they must have got acting lessons of buhi.

You will know if they have been influenced by our friend buhi, if they start listening to David Bowie and Lou Reed albums and speaking in tongues on internet forums, then they have been "got at".

^^^ My dog understands me. She dug up one of my plants last night. A stare and a pointed finger and a bowie. reed snarl, she got it. Slunk away, tail between legs. Wife called her for food, but she had to pass me. Grovel on belly as only some can do. The last bit was in tongues.
The plant fair at Suan Luang has just finished. It is my favourite event of the year. Wife goes around buying this and that, all non expensive. I have an eye for the unusual, something we do not have. It seems my eye is keen. How much? 2000 baht. Forget it,special price for you. Do you have a special price for my dog? She destroys any new plants unless I guard them. The ones she got were my wife's, but she . bitch, got the finger , snarl and glare.Have to laugh though.

This staring contest lasted for ages, they were like statues. Not sure who won but later on they were getting on well enough, so there were no grudges held. Pack supremacy - he who looks away loses place in the pack. If you ever encounter an aggressive dog, fix it in the eye and don't look away. 99% of the time it will submit, and you will see it clearly submit. Almost human in it's action. 1% of the time it will attack, at which point kick it to death cos you are dealing with a mentally disturbed dog. Try the stare technique with the soi dogs, you'll get a good giggle when you see them look away/submit. Forkin hilarious when I was in Mexico and was warned by a friend that her two dogs were psycho. Within sixty seconds the two of them were running for their lives much to her disgust. Stared down then soaked by the water is I was carrying, they ended up cowering below her couch. Effing stupid mutts.

In saying that - me and blue-eyed collies don't get along, and collies with two different eye colours? Sure to end in a fight between us.
Forking nutters, that's what they are.
My mate had a mental rottweiler and he thought it was funny to have it standing on the top step going nuts when I ( and others ) went to see him. Quite intimidating having a devil dog snarling at you at eye level. So I grabbed it off the step and kicked fork out of it. He wasn't very happy.
That guy was tall, Mick Jagger build as a teenager, rough as hell, and ended up a drug dealer. Noteworthy to me, I couldn't believe his capacity for food and alcohol. We were on a drinking session in July 1985 and he drank two bottles of wine and forty pints. Then on the way home ate two takeaway meals and bought a third for when he got in.
A complete bastard of a man, he set his brother up to take the rap for a drug bust. His sister took a knife to him when he was sleeping, stabbed him sixteen times, and told him to admit his guilt to the cops or she would slit his throat. Good girl.
The man died of a heart attack at 37 years of age. The coroner reported he was 37 stone when he died. For all he was a bastard, he was a great friend to have. Always had your back when things were turning rough.
What a man.

At heart he was a good man, a good friend. His problem was that he was dragged up by feckless, useless parents. To be fair, his Dad suffered a brain injury that knocked him off keel. His Mum, effing terrible. Allergic to soap, didn't clean her house - I remember one say she opened the door and some weird grasshopper type insect stood next to her like a pet child. In saying that, she was hilarious. Think Norah Batty aged 40, doing her best turn at the local sing song on a Friday night. Excellent singer, woeful dancer, what a combination. She died of a heart attack sitting up in bed aged around 44.

Same in Bangkok, i am known as is my family.Nothing happens (i hope) the dog stare as mick described. Not at all, Buhi. My Dad ran a bouncer company when I was a teenager. Problem was, it made me a target ( which he hated and regretted ). Don't be kidded, there were dozens of times when I was intimidated at that age by guys looking to give me a kicking to get back at my Dad. This guy, and several others, had my back. To the extent in this case one night he found out I was being set up, and he attacked the guys before I turned the corner. You have to appreciate that. I might give people the impression that I'm a smart-ass ( I am ). But I'm a smart-ass who has been blessed by wonderful lifetime friends. Truly wonderful. Jimmy Gordon ( RIP ) was one. The education, the help, the assistance, even the protection that man gave me was incredible. Jimmy Paterson ( RIP ) the same. Last Sunday morning I set out to visit a couple of elderly men that have been bedrocks of my life. Just last month a friend contacted me to discuss a childhood incident that has scarred him for life. We were both almost killed in separate incidents on the same day in a disused quarry. TBH, I blamed him at the time for his stupidity nearly causing my death. Thirty-six years later he came to me to discuss it, haunted by what happened. I was surprised it had affected him so - and our recall matched perfectly. No need for absolution - he just needed to get the incident off his chest. Interested? He'said been left with a fear of heights and a terror of flying ever since. He only goes abroad by ferry. He'd love to take his Grandkids to Orlando but can't face the flight. Solution? He's agreed to fly to Europe with me in April. He knows I fly all the time, and went looking for my Dad to ask his advice. Only me, only him. We'll travel together and lay that ghost to rest. TBH, I feel privileged that he sought me out.

And I will tell you true; the only person who had a chance to punch me was my own first son. On Samui, I took him there to try to reconnect. I was asleep when he attacked.Soon guarded myself and survived. As did he thanks to me, as he was a dead man, yes man , not boy. I got him out of the mess he had created (not for the first time) and on a flight out of Thailand. Yep family were ready to kill him.

^^^ Thoughts, the best thing is he never knew, still does not of what he did in Thailand. To hit a father! Police were called, I dealt wit that. Got him and myself on the next flight out of Samui. Brother in law waiting at the airport, gun in pocket. Took him home to take a shower and pack all his stuff. He then ranted again and I pointed out the family were with me, so best get your stuff and we will take you to the airport. Drove off , brother in laws, yes two, both armed. Bought him a ticket (bloody expensive) on the next flight to the UK. Gave it to him and walked out. Not a story Bleth, true.
