Just about got this computer running again.Uncle could have sorted it in minutes. Three in the morning I switch on. no access. Son had been using it. Woke him up to sort it out. Denial, did not do anything. Went to the other computer, all fine. Morning, dear son what did you do? Nothing. Why do I get an error warning of a device used? Oh, I used my flash drive from school. Oh the one that has a block on it. All schools use this or should. No problem, except he pressed agreed or something, wiped out my log in, and the whole computer now in Thai. Oh so you did do something, then unsomething it. Don't know how. I do, log in . Right proceed ,follow my instructions and get this thing back into english. Got there, but still not set up as I had it. No data lost, music that is. Had a laugh.

I love Venice. The buildings are a facade. Not connected to the interior. Research for your selves. Titian exposed the facade, but no one noticed.

At the least you should check the PC BIOS to make sure it will only try to boot from your hard drive. That is not a 100% guarantee, but helps a lot. Furthermore keep your anti-virus program up-to-date. Depending on who uses your PC do a regularly or ad-hoc scan at times. Depending on the PC BIOS you might even want to completely disable USB ports. You can always go back into BIOS and undo those changes. Of course if you use USB a lot that's a bit bothersome.

Sons and daughters will just disable any security you provide. A quick phone calll to a friend and someone will tell them how to boot to bios and re-enable usb etc.

I trust him, if not I would not allow him to use this computer. There is another and he has a smart phone. He just happened to use this one. He does not usually, but was in our room and doing his homework. I had no objection to that. I was watching football.

It is a little like the way young kids think a tall bottle has more than a short. It is inbuilt, the need is to use the comp and any way is fine. Fences are for jumping.

I will not give the details or it would make it easier for you to hack in. I expect you could, which is why I am very careful of that I release for all the world to read.

Maybe I could but you do not have to fear from me. 1. I doubt thatt you have much of interest to me 2 I still believe in and support the Codes of Ethics of my Proffessional Associations even though I am long retired.

We have an old saying in Australia - "There are two things you never lend to anyone - your lawnmower or your wife, because they will both come back ducked".
Don't own a lawnmower anymore, we don't have enough lawn to warrant owning one, and I would not lend my wife to anyone as she is not an object I own that I can lend out.
Something I do not like is using someone else's computer, it just does not feel right. And I don't like anyone using my computer, fullstop. Seems like every time someone has over the years something has gone wrong. Had an American guy I met in Cambodia years ago come stay with wife and I for a couple of nights when I lived in CR years ago. Let him use my computer to "check his emails". Ended up with a trojan that took me ages to remove and when I looked at my search history there were lots of searches for "ladyboy bars in CM" etc !

Never let anyone except on rare occasions a family member use my networked secondary computer.....and then only on a very limited guest account. I have better things to do than rebuild my files. > 1 g of flight sim data for a start.

Still it's a matter of making it (more) difficult , not making it impossible. Also changing the BIOS is a deliberate act, not something you do by accident.
