Of brother in law, the one who I never fell out with, forgotten.
It might never have escalated as it did, had I not been drinking. Bad words were exchanged. (Mayor of Casterbridge).
Past; over.
He has a small business, driving his Hiace on tours of unseen Thailand. It started when he was a driver for a film crew, who needed locations that were genuine, old Thailand. It was cousin 's idea , she the natural business woman. Knows a good idea. Wife often works for her. Cousin's husband is Chai's business partner. They each have a Hiace, renew every two years, has to be VIP standard. Both excellent drivers. Need to be, as it is their living and the customers pay big money for the exclusive service.
They go off the tourist trail, offer camping or staying in small bungalows, not the exclusive awful resorts.
This year we went to Thap Lan National Park. It is actually part of the Khao Yai area, the two parks join.
Khaoi Yai is ruined, a place for hi so Thai to stay in ridiculous themed resorts. Thames Valley, Chateau this and that, Tosca . Just google them. Go to one of these crass places and it could be anywhere. The hills a mere backdrop to the golf course.
This the most ridiculous.
Thap Lan has smaller off the beaten track resorts. Hard to get to, small, dirt roads, winding up the hills. A favourite of motor cycle enthusiasts.
The one we stayed has only four bungalows , most visitors camp, tents are provided, but we take our own. Part of the experience.
The view one way is stunning, lush forest. The other way a disaster, stripped bare a barren landscape where the precious rosewood trees have been logged illegally, but how no one noticed, we all know.
"The national park has become a war zone, laid siege by gangs of armed criminals in search of rosewood, which fetches hundreds of thousands of dollars on the international black market. It is estimated over 100 Cambodian poachers have been killed in armed conflicts with Thai rangers in 2015."
Strange they were all Cambodian. We know, it could never be the Thai landowners cashing in on the most valuable of trees.
It was a short stay as Chai had tours booked and could only take a couple of days off.
A very sober trip. I resolved no drink, no drink to prove my side of the bargain; no drink no rows, no words that should never be uttered.
Father in law and I had a great time, two old men enjoying each others company.
Happy New Year.

One amusing event was father and I taking a look at a famous street market heart of the awful Khao Yai, tourist zone. We were on our way back to Bangkok. Did have some good fresh goodies, but overpriced. That is until I found avocados, Thai ones. These I buy at a very low price in Chiag Rai. The vendors had no idea the old man behind this old farang was a close relative. First quote 100 Baht each. Laugh. Father spoke, shocked look. Forget it. Next, we were down to 90 Baht a kilo. More like it, word was getting around. Next 80 Baht a kilo, fine, chose a large perfect ripe one, weighed, 50 Baht. Deal. Father was highly amused. Was a laugh for all as we journeyed on.

We just bought 2 avocados in Australia buhi for about the same price 2 dollars each which is a reasonable price for here Some things just aren't cheap in Thailand

When my wife first went to Australia she went mad over the grapes, was eating them by the kilo. She claimed they were not only much cheaper than Thailand but tasted better. I don't buy anything that is greatly overpriced, so I don't care what they charge. Same in Australia, I only ever buy what's in season and even then the cheapest one on sale. Over there red and yellow capsicums are always dearer than green ones, so I only buy green. On average about 90% of what you buy in a Thai fruit and vege market is far, far cheaper than Oz. I love shopping here and not having to look at the prices, just buy whatever looks good.

In Bangkok, Thai avocados are rare, sometimes Tops has them or Seri and they are expensive.I would have bought, but knew I was getting a high price offered because I was farang, and probably Bangkok. Both true. It was father wandering behind and the look when it was revealed we were relatives. After, when our son joined us there were a few embarrassed smiles from the over priced vendors, as we walked back with my purchase.

I sure do hope Cowboy Town impressed you as much as it did me. This year is the first time in years I have entered Khao Yai via Pak Chong (usually enter from the Prachinburi enterance), those buildings have no place there, what an eyesore, Wont be going back there in a hurry.

This avocado was huge, do the math; it was weighed at 80 baht a kilo, so was over half a kilo , it made enough of my special of avocado, mashed with olive oil, black pepper and Italian spice to feed the family.

Yes , saw cowboy town, very impressed, but we did not stop as I kept going on about Soi Cowboy and why were there no naked girls. Never passed through that way before, absolutely hideous. And I checked the prices of those stupid resorts, about 7000 a day. Idiotic, hundreds of them. A total blot on the landscape.

Worse than hideous, VULGAR, and the hi so's lap it up. I had a go at rgs and Blackpool, but that was a working class resort for the wakes holiday; when all the factories shut for a week and the workforce all went together for a week of fun. No comparison, give me Blackpool over a fake Thames city of london, chateau versaille, and the ridiculous leaning tower. Blackpool tower next I hope.Joint venture rgs, can we get bleth to put up the capital?

If I was ever to consider land up that way it would be in Prachinburi. As mentioned check out the names of these kitch resorts, the HiSo know no better.

Never checked the actual weight, was delighted at getting this monster for 50 baht.
