Good news! I recently read about a foreigner who successfully took the road from Taunggyi to Kengtung in Ride Asia Forum as part of an organized tour. Everything else I've read has indicated this road in SHan State has been entirely closed ot foreigners. Thing is, there's no definitive word on what travel is allowed regarding foreigners traveling here in Myanmar. It seems to be all about whatever commander is running the checkpoint that day and whether or not there's active shelling going on of the road that day.... I will say this, on first sight of opium fields on the roadway, I'll put away the helmet cam. The holiday has started! No work for 4 weeks! |

Welll... Change of plans. While researching where to go instead when I get turned back in Shan State, I looked into Chin State, the mountainous western province bordering India and Bangladesh, eventually deciding that I should just go there straightaway. So, new route!  |

Just as my Myanmar language skills are improving, I find out I need to speak Welsh. Great. Just have to practice that singing in the bathroom and leaving the bar after a great night just when it is your shout  sorry tony |
