Russia's health ministry is considering a permanent ban on selling cigarettes to people born in 2014 or later. It's part of a tough anti-tobacco strategy the country's politicians are trying to make a reality. The ban on the sale of tobacco to this generation and younger would continue even after they reach adulthood. It's only being considered at the moment but it could mean smoking eventually becomes illegal for all Russians. Russian news site Izvestia says it has seen a policy document titled "concept for the state policy to counter tobacco consumption in the years 2017-2022 and beyond". It says the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation confirmed the document is being widely shared across government. www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/38571174/young-russians-born-this-decade-face-complete-smoking-ban

Good on Russia, as an ex 40 day man, thinks its a good move, i am not anti smoking, i am anti hypocrite, and goverments round the world are fking hypocrites when it comes to smoking, they keep telling people how bad it is for you but keep taking the fking tax, if they were true to their convictions they would just ban the use of tobacco completely

As an ex-smoker I agree SP, but even when I was smoking I used to wonder how much of that tax they were collecting on every pack of cigs was going into the health system, or the "Don't Smoke It's Bad For You" campaign.
They tell us not to drink yet they fine you or jail you for doing just about anything "under the influence". And collect vast amounts of tax on grog.
They will never ban smoking in Australia, don't know about the rest of the world, because the government knows the black market will take over and make a killing and the govt will miss out on the taxes. Two guys got busted a few years ago for selling "chop-chop" illegally and both received a one million dollar fine !

Well done Russia. At least they wont be held to ransom by Phillip Morris or others lobbying on behalf of big business.
