Also the imam starting at dawn is not loved by many Sometimes it's well before dawn. I was in a remote village in Indonesia and was woken up at 3:30 by the usual caterwauling from a mosque - long before daybreak. Apparently, they broadcast prayers every day at that time to wake the people up so they can go work in the fields. Can't help thinking alarm clocks would be a tad less antisocial for all the people there who aren't peasant farmers.

^ As I said earlier - "they are not going to stop it just because some farang don't like it". Same sort of people complain about roosters heralding the dawn, as they have done for thousands of years.. Old Arabic saying, which was quoted when Tiger Woods got into strife - "A rooster has to crow".

How can a tourist ( Rubl's link ) go to the alps and complain about cowbells? I enjoy the sound of the bells - and even if I didn't, who could complain about centuries of tradition? Because they are leftie luvvie vegans ? I'll tell you what they are guilty of, and you can blame Walt Disney for this. They are guilty of imposing human emotions and thoughts onto animals. These bells are just about the first sound a calf will hear when it is born, and it will hear the bell it's whole life. Do you think the cow knows any different? The day they should panic is the day the farmer takes the bell off - cos that literally is: For whom the bell tolls -

Old Arabic saying, which was quoted when Tiger Woods got into strife - "A rooster has to crow". There was a story in my home area in Scotland ( can't remember exactly where ) of a townie moving to the country and insisting the local smallholder get rid of their cockerel. Environmental health agreed and all hell broke loose. Related note, we owned a pub in my home town. Noise complaints went in and our licence was under threat. My Dad was under severe pressure. On the day he turned up at the licence hearing, the chairman said - "We have established the pub first opened in 1922. We will hear complaints only from those who have lived near the pub since before 1922. We are going by the assumption that anyone that moved to that vicinity after 1922 knew there was a pub there, so they have no right to complain." Good man.
