Hi- When someone travels on vacation from the US to Thailand with their US iPhone, can they just swap in a new Thai SIM to use temporarily in Thailand? Or are US iPhones somehow locked to their American provider? Has anyone here actually done this? The iPhone was purchased in the US and until now has only been used there. Thanks for any info.

If it’s a Verizon phone (purchased at) you might have some trouble. Making telephone calls might be OK, but connecting to the net might prove to be difficult, in some cases. The girlfriend uses a samsung note 4 (purchased at Verizon with a package) while in the states and has tested it here. edit: I do apologize, you mentioned IPhone and I don’t have any information

From what I read on one site - ..........................."YOUR IPHONE MUST BE UNLOCKED (it’s free and MUCH easier to do than you think). No matter what version iphone you have, if it is “carrier locked” to a specific mobile carrier, you will not be able to use a local Thailand sim card in it.".......................- You could get it "unlocked" here but be careful. I did that years ago with a Samsung phone and when I got back to Australia it would not accept an Aussie sim card.
