The former England manager Graham Taylor has died aged 72 following a suspected heart attack. Taylor, whose playing career took him to Grimsby Town and Lincoln City, managed England during a turbulent spell from 1990 until 1993 and also had two spells in charge at Aston Villa and Watford, as well as managerial tenures at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Lincoln. In recent years he had worked as a pundit on the BBC and BT Sport. “With the greatest sadness, we have to announce that Graham passed away at his home early this morning of a suspected heart attack,” read a family statement. “The family are devastated by this sudden and totally unexpected loss.” www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jan/12/graham-taylor-dies-72-england-aston-villa-watford

You know, reading tributes to the man, it makes it all the clearer how sickening The Sun was in their "turnip," meme.
The Sun, among other English red tops, can take the shameful responsibility of making managing AND PLAYING for England and intimidating experience.

On a positive note, I always enjoyed his contributions to Radio Five Live coverage. The best compliment you can give radio coverage is when you turn off the TV volume, watch the pictures only, and listen to the radio.
With him and the team, you could do that.

I was thinking the same thing, when ever I hear his name that's the picture that pops up in my head.

He did a great job at Villa, he took us from the old 2nd Division to 2nd in the old first division in only 3 seasons. He was really down to earth and a thoroughly nice chap. The Sun and its ilk ruined a great career and the chance of England becoming a great team again.
RIP Graham.

He did a great job at Villa, he took us from the old 2nd Division to 2nd in the old first division in only 3 seasons. He was really down to earth and a thoroughly nice chap. The Sun and its ilk ruined a great career and the chance of England becoming a great team again. RIP Graham. And that's the thing - what he did with Watford was unbelievable - then he went and did a similar thing with Villa. These journalists that scarred him couldn't lace his boots. Here's the tribute released by Alex Ferguson. Sir Alex Ferguson has paid tribute to former England manager Graham Taylor who passed away earlier today (Thursday) at the age of 72. The two men pitted their wits against each other on numerous occasions when Sir Alex was in charge of Manchester United and Graham was boss of Aston Villa and, most famously, Watford. Speaking as a board member of the League Managers' Association, Sir Alex said: "Graham was one of the old-school managers. He started as a very young man of 28, having suffered a career-ending injury as a player. "His first appointment was at Lincoln City where he had to dig deep to make an impression in his new career. He applied himself to every facet of football management and was identified by [then Watford chairman] Elton John, becoming his choice of new manager for Watford. "Graham took Watford through the divisions and to a famous FA Cup final before being released by Elton John to take the reins at Aston Villa. He was the natural choice to become the England manager when he did and this was the pinnacle of a hugely successful career. "I have very fond memories of Graham. He was approachable, open and honest. If he could help you in any way, he always would. I was really shocked by this terrible news and I send my condolences to Graham's wife and all of his family." United winger Ashley Young began his career at Watford, where Graham became an honorary life-president after his two spells there as manager. The Reds star tweeted: "Very sad to hear the news about Graham Taylor. A @watfordfc legend and an absolute gentleman." Everyone at Manchester United joins Sir Alex and Ashley in sending sincere condolences to Graham's family at this difficult time.
