That idiot did not listen. Took a room in one of the better low life rooms. Hell, he made it , drunk, to my , our, the upper class (snob) end of the soi. Thought as I was English could be a new great friend. The idiot then made every faux pas you could possibly make in Thailand. Boy and I were talking when the drunk farang arrived. Well it was useless for me to pretend I did not speak English. Boy did a magnificent act of totally not knowing any English. When I finally got rid of him, Boy laughed. "Your poker face was incredible,". "So was yours,". Trying to cadge a drink. "Have slate mate?". Dumb ignorance. "I never buy drinks for anyone, Thai way,". I did lose it when he made a pass at a Thai lady. He had no idea of what taboo he had transgressed. "This is not a bar, you made a pass at a wife of a friend, beware." "I was just being friendly,". "Try telling that to her husband and the rest of us, sorry, not welcome."

Been there done that seen it way too many times.
You ommitted the bit about they think Thais cant speak Engerlish.
Some dullard made a bee line for me like a effin exocet missile, probably thought I would be his new best friend. The Thais had quickly sussed out his rented companion for the night before she had even sat down. He orders a large bia Chang and drinks it straight from the bottle, not even a straw, fires up a cigarette without even asking if its ok to smoke.
Thais now well p**sed off, he then starts to tell me, "Thai lady number one sucky f=cky", complete with hand movements.
He is now so close to a beating his rented mia chow has sussed out its best she gets him home.
The Thais said nothing, no wais etc were exchanged, in fact the Thais made no contact with her whatsoever, to do so would have been a massive loss of face.
I think she got the hint when a Thai asked me, man ben krai? I answered, mai roo muan gan.
Thankfully since moving out this way, those incidents are few and far between, in On nut it was almost an everday occurence.
Excellent post BTW.

It was awful, so embarrassing to me. I kept cool until the idiot wahed a lady and passed some comment. Then i still kept pretty cool. "Her husband will be here soon, with a few family members, plus not to mention others. I suggest you move fast,".

It is like I have taken a "contract" out, but no, the Thai , friends know. The later drink i had even greater respect if that is possible. So, not my problem. I warned him. Best I could do. He tried the "I'm tough" bit, oh f off. Take on the village , the family, Thailand , oh so tough. F off.

I posted the story before about the "east end" wide boy that came to Thailand to recover a debt, ended up in a family members tattoo shop, brother in law told me, he is a total wimp couldnt take any pain.
A tat that could be knocked out in about 8 hours took this guy about 4 sittings to do.
They dont get it, and never will.
They dont know theres only two words you need to say, and every Thai for miles around will be all over them. I used to ask the brother in law why do you tat those guys for free?
He told me, they are thankful, and are like a private security firm, plus between customers, what else am I going to do?
Thailand, like an onion, the more layers you peel, the more you realise, you dont have a clue.

The later drink was necessary. All had gathered. I told them to cool it. Then we just drank and laughed. Friend's three month baby in my arms. Mother looking for husband and Kat and Jess, "Over there,". She laughed. Knows I take care of her children and indeed her husband, strange as that may seem. Husband, the same old joke, "Go home buhi, you have put me in a spot again,". "No , problem gop, any time,". We all laughed.
We all go back a long time. Boy as stated, a sort of son, no, a son, sort of. Gop, a childhood friend of boy and one i have known for years. At his wedding. There are others, but one missing, Ping Pong as I named him. Died that night. You can not be closer to a community than that. Sad that my best friend's death bought us all closer together. How dare some idiot intrude on that? Just my anger and sorrow.

Of the Thai wai, the most subtle of gestures; farang beware. I never wai, one exception father and know the appropriate gesture. It is not reciprocated, not an insult a normal response. Very few Thai wah me, apart from shop assistants, which is meaningless.I do not fit into the order of Thai hierarchy. At a personal level I receive due respect, a wai is not required. A confusion to be avoided. Just as Thai do not leap out from no where and grab my hand to shake it.

Today, nearby American neighbour aged 70, been here 7 years, me doing the "help you out routine" for a day. Drive to shop "A" to buy stuff he needs, wai's all the 20 something sales staff, repeats the same two or three Thai phrases he knows but can't pronounce. Insults (unaware) to small stall holder 'cos her stuff all peng mak, more insults (unaware) to sales staff 'cos you sexy too much - try to point out the errors and he wont have it. Conversation there and back about Thailand is this and that and general no good because they don't harness the intelligence of the farang - stop for obligatory smoke before entering every building and immediately upon exiting and before getting in truck. I've not spent such a poor day for many years, totally depressed and angry upon return. NEVER AGAIN.
On a brighter front, Mrs. CM cooked a mean veal corden bleu this PM, my waist line didn't need it but my spirits certainly did, thank you Mrs CM. Recanted the days exploits to her and approved use of lethal force if I ever reach that stage.

He orders a large bia Chang and drinks it straight from the bottle, not even a straw, fires up a cigarette without even asking if its ok to smoke. Drinking straight from the bottle... Is it polite to ask for a glass? More importantly is drinking straight from the bottle a faux pas? I don't know what setting this was in, so please pardon my questions.Thais now well p**sed off, he then starts to tell me, "Thai lady number one sucky f=cky", complete with hand movements. Cringed my non existant tits off profusely, just reading that.I think she got the hint when a Thai asked me, man ben krai? I answered, mai roo muan gan. Can you translate that for me please?
I have some questions, I'll add above in italics. Not being an ass, I just like to learn as much as possible. Oh, I nearly forgot what are the 2 words you meant in this statement? They dont know theres only two words you need to say, and every Thai for miles around will be all over them.

I have a controversial opinion but Buhi will explode.
I will point out that Buhi has admitted to having many a drunken night in Thailand.
Would Buhi like to tell us of the times that he committed even greater faux pas than the gentlemen of whom he speaks?

He's been a total walloper more times than he can remember in Thailand.
