How do you take the Thai police to do the right thing seriously?
Can you rely on them?
Or do you just live in hope that you'll never need them?
Lots of question marks there which shouldn't be needed but I have a feeling the people you should trust to keep law and order are useless and corrupt
Am I wrong?

My own opinion of The BIB is that its basically a criminal organisation. They are only interested in things that gave a pay off; hence we see some of the ridiculous cases such as Koh Tao, Red Bull Driver, MooHam etc
Let's see the next one with the Tony Kenway assassisnation, my own feeling is that it will be swept away, because the revenue streams are to big.
This is not yo say that there aren't some decent chaps in The BIB, but as a whole, the organisation is rotten and incompetent to the core.
As many say The BIB "are the best police force that money can buy".

I know how bent they are, but I believe there are other police forces around the world who are just as corrupt. Hollywood has made billions out of making movies about American police forces. To be honest, I have not had too many run-ins with the Thai cops, and when I did it was 100% my fault - speeding, wrong way down a one way street (twice) tax not paid on Isuzu (wife's bloody fault) etc. and I have found them ok. The average Thai does not like them but I bet if there were a few in their family they would not knock back the money. Some foreigners actually like the fact that they can be so easily "bought".

Said he was a notorious dog if a man, and that the list of suspects is longer than the queue for the opening night of a Star Wars movie. Individual concerned told me that he knew Kenway for a while. I don't believe this individual was involved, but he was rejoicing at the news of his death. Unsolicited why? I hadn't read the news for a few days and the whole story passed me by. Still haven't read it.

Yeah, it seems Kenway was far from popular , will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'm p**sed of at the amount of road checks in Chiang Mai. It's out of order, and they are targeting tourists. I was pulled last week, left standing for ten minutes, while they pulled another FOURTEEN FARANG AND NOT ONE THAI, got fed up waiting, jumped on my bike and drove off.
I know this ain't police, but the CM nightlife scene has been destroyed. Zoe closed at midnight last night, Spicy at 12.30. Lucky Bar dance area didn't open at all. Drinks served in plastic cups, instructed to drainntgem if the police came. Terrible.
I was at a poluce owned bar before that, even that was closed at 12. Hundreds, if not thousands, of tourists spilled onto the street at midnight in Chiang Mai on a SATURDAY NIGHT with nowhere to go.
A disgrace.

No idea whats on today, i drove into town for a Sunday Lunch at Archers and there were police everywhere, as well as on Hangdong Road and tge road that goes up to Rachapreuk.
I haven't been into the centre for ages, but midnight closing is insane at this time of year.

Closing 12PM on a Saturday night with Chinese NY and being in a tourist city doesn't make sense. Mind you, I haven't heard any of the Thai locals complain.

So youjobject to laws being followed and bars closing at the legal closing time?

Personally when I was a lot younger I was more interested in taking the take out out of the bar and where action could be had....that was well before 12.

Explain why the 12.00 closing is enforced in tourist Chiang Mai and not in tourist BKK, PHUKET, SAMUI, PATTAYA etc. And it's got fork all to do with the law.
