Several areas of Sydney had topped 40C At Bankstown at 1.45pm it was 42.7C, at Sydney Olympic Park, and Penrith is was 42.3C, and Camden, Canterbury, Horsley Park and Badgerys Creek Creek has all topped 41C."

Forty-eight is not so bad when there is practically no humidity, as I experienced in western India in 2007. But when the humidity is up it is murder.
I am sure those who worked in the ME would know all about it.
