Thailand certainly attracts a broad spectrum of characters and I am sure we have all come across those people who are just that bit extra 'special. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you 'The Giant". The Giant arrived one hot humid day for a teaching demo, things were fruity from the start as he arrived in traditional Thai attire. Even the old Khun Yings thought this was a little fruity. Teaching demo must have gone fine as out lanky friend received an offer. Shortly after he stomps into the common room and demand we attend his welcome party that he will be hosting himself. Nobody attended and this was when things started to go wrong. The giant had a bit of a meltdown, tired to barfine a teenage waitress, got trashed and fell into a rice paddy. Come Saturday morning my friend calls me to tell me I need to get to her apartment quickly as Big Foot is trying to kick the door in. I arrive to find him passed out on the floor and we decide it would be best to go out for the day. We went to Patterz. We return on Monday to discover that the dude got himself fired for drunkenly proposing to a Thai teacher at gate duty. We all breathe a sigh of relief that he will soon leave our quiet little khlong. He didn't, over the next week it went from bad to worse. Monday night he gets knocked down by a baht bus; the slowest moving mode of transport known to man. Tuesday night he kicks the apartment owners dog for giving him a 'look'. Wednesday the cops rock up and he proceeds to throw money at them. Thursday: A holding cell. Friday: Back to Bkk.

Jeez it's amazing people like this live outside their home countries. Good story of the weird teacher.
I've met some drunk expats which maybe are normal in the daytime, but generally most have been ok so far. If I sense they are a bit out there, usually I loose them quickly. Bit different in my situation, I don't live in Thailand.

I prefer not to have mirrors in my house as I just end getting in a fight after a few beers. Funny thing is it's always a draw, it's like the guy knows what I am doing. I think it could be ghosts. Must be ghosts, stands to reason.

The short guy with long hair (yet bald on top) who used to hang around in one of the 7-Elevens up the far end of Suk 71 (Pridi). Any time I went in there he was already there - maybe he was married to one of the staff or something. He followed me around a couple of times offering advice on which brands were best or what items were value for money, and 'helped' me with his Thai language skills at the counter. He once followed me to the ATM outside the store with an offer to provide assistance as 'it might be confusing' for me. I doubt he was into skimming or PIN watching but I kept him at arm's length anyway.

Around 10 years ago, when I first got here and was doing a bit of teaching. There was this weird guy, glasses, comb over and he often looked like he was dribbling and always had half his lunch spilt over his shirt. He used to just appear looking into classroom windows, gurnning and making weird noises. Apparently he'd been taken for a few million by a girl in Nana -not a surpise. He got the boot shortly afterwards for sleeping in the classroom, amongst other weirdness.

I went to TCI of my own accord, I was not recruited fro my classroom sleeping skills.

I think some people are a little odd before they get here, some get turned.
Can't really add much else, as the only one I could think of was soundly beaten by post #6

Udon, also know as Gungadin. Now deceased. Strange chap, with an interesting 'story', especially his earlier years in LOS. Not sure if any of you knew him, so I will leave it at that.....shouldn't speak ill of the dead either. Gungadin sent me a PM and helped me quite a bit when I was a noob on TVF. Nice bloke.
