Poor man, that may well have killed him. I remember an incident near my hometown where a wheel went through a car windshield on the motorway. Crash/fireball killed a family of four. Tragic.

My Mercedes sprinter had a fault in that regard, any maintenance re tyres and wheels had me paranoid about checking them. Worst incident was within a few miles of having the wheel checked at a tyre garage, the wheel came flying off on the motorway grounding the van, with me watching the wheel travel 400 yards down the hard shoulder before collapsing.

Terrifying.
