But you need to know when you need to ask questions and what to ask. The rules are often arcane and abstruse, running contrary to any sense of natural justice. Citizens advice....i am a singaporian with British residence and i am going back to Singapore for an extended period is there anything i need to know as regards my PR ? No but avoid Clarke Quay after happy hour. Its gets seriously unhappy unless rgs has his credit card behind the bar.

How does one know when to seek advice? In the case you give (not checking the details) she has PR, with the "P" standing for "Permanent". "Permanent" means "for ever", so the title suggests that the status is not going to be lost. Where is the linguistic (or other) imperative to seek advice?

Permanent residence provided one complies with the terms and conditions of ones PR , the full title is a Permanent Residence Permit, in other words you can stay here for as long as want "provided " you do the following..... The only people who are completely unhindered to stay in a country are citizens Time restrictions on being out of you your country of PR is a common condition worldwide, stay out too long and your "permit" is invalidated, the UK is 2 years, South Africa, for example is 3 years

After happy hour, , that sorted out the wheat from the chaff, or the pikeys from those in the know, after Happy Hour we used to head for the Navy Club.

At the risk of being called a racist, I would say an observer, but thats for others to decide.
In my own experience, the Singaporeans (especially of Chinese descent) seem to think they are somewhat special, the snobs of Asia.
One of the best Singaporean women I have ever met was of Indian descent, the other Singaporean WAGS turned their noses up at her.
Make of that what you will.

The only "rubbish" here appears to be your understanding of the word "permanent".

The only "rubbish" here appears to be your understanding of the word "permanent". Well actually it seems you dont fully understand the term Permanent Residence Permit within the immigration legal context, as stated: Permanent Residence Permit - stay as long as you like, permanently if you like, provided you follow the terms and conditions of your permit, typically a country never expects a person to stay on PR permanently, they expect you to become a nationalised citizen, the lady concerned could have taken Citizenship years before

I wonder how many Permanent Residents in Thailand are 'encouraged' by the government to apply for Thai citizenship

And how many do you think don't know the immigration rules?

Ah and now the truth comes out and you see how the media has purposely manipulated the piece for propaganda purposes As they are using the phrase "extended period of time" as if they had written 11 years kinda doesnt have the impact of "looking after dying parents" does it ? Another one on the BBC, news piece on two UK Mexican/US born kids traveling to Washington to "confront" Trumpton as their undocumented mother has been deported back south of the border piece is inferring Trumpton had a hand in this.... fact is the mother had a deportation order put on her in 2013 by a Judge for being an illegal and for fraud, and they have only just recently caught her and deported her Trumpton wasnt n office when this court order was issued in 2013

She got exceptional leave to remain then immediately left the country for 11 years? Staggering.

Re Trump - correct.
An Obama Era court order, nothing to do with him.
