A Guest blog entry on the ScientificAmerican site "How to Get Back to the Moon in 4 Years--This Time to Stay The answer is pretty straightforward: turn to private industry According to the Washington Post, Donald Trump wants to make a splash in space. And he apparently wants to make that splash by orbiting the Moon. Orbiting the Moon? Merely circling it? What a comedown from America’s past high…landing twelve humans on the lunar surface. But there is a way to outdo America’s past achievements. And to accomplish this in a shorter time with a smaller budget than the Trump team imagines. It’s a way to get to the Moon and to stay there permanently. A way to begin this process immediately and to achieve moon landings in less than four years. How? I hope they find something that is habitable soon because this planet won't be one day, the way they are going.

With long term plans this is just what NASA needs and hopefully for a longer period. Too many changes, too many budget cuts and regains and for the last six years and one/two more to come America needs Russian help to get astronauts to the I.S.S.

A lot of Americans get stuck into Uncle Boris, not realising the US military buys rocket engines off them www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-space-russia-idUSKCN0X600H

Senator McCain, but you cannot make a reliable rocket engine in one or two years especially if you don't get government help. Even SpaceX needed years and they did have help from NASA (at least moneywise). Last 'official' news is only in 2019 first flights of both SpaceX's Dragon capsule and Boeing's CT-100 Starliner capsule to ISS. Nasa booked flight on Soyuz for at least 2017, 2018, and a few days ago made a few more reservations. "NASA buys up to five more seats on future Soyuz missions NASA has purchased two seats on Russian Soyuz capsules launching later this year and in early 2018 to expand the crew on the U.S. segment of the International Space Station from three to four, and reserved options to fly astronauts on Soyuz spacecraft in 2019 if commercial rides are not available in time." spaceflightnow.com/2017/03/01/nasa-buys-up-to-five-more-seats-on-future-soyuz-missions/
