It seems that in 2016 the complaint hotline received 217,000 complaints with 157,000 of them from 35 people. That's interesting statistics. Wonder why those people haven't been bought out as surely complaints would drop by 75% thanks to all measures taken In total 5800 people submitted a total of 217,000 complaints to B.A.S (bewonersaanspreekpunt Schiphol = Complaintpoint for people living in the neighbourhood) in 2016. The number of people complaining grew by 8.5% to 5900, but the number of 'frequent complainers' remained steady. Most complaints were about the old Boeing 747-400, but there were also complaints about the newer planes like 747-800 and A380. Reporting period 2015-11-01 - 2016-10-31. In 2016 Schiphol saw 492,000 plane 'movements' (6.5% increase to 2015), and 63,6 million arrivals/departures (+9.2%). No info on how all this compares with other large airports like Heathrow, Frankfurt, Paris

They should be arrested and subjected to psychiatric evaluation.

People like this make public service a total nightmare for many. How about the effect they have on the workers that have to field the calls?
I remember an MP I knew saying that the one thing he detested about his job were these obsessive nutters that would show up at every meeting and every surgery making the same complaint.
.......................
Heathrow another example. I live very near to the flight patb of CNX - I used to lice below it. Yes, there were times when I felt the aircraft were going to land in my condo, but you soon got used to it. I reckon a hundred flights a day go over me - and I probably notice a couple. First thing in the morning, last thing at night.
Anyone that moves near an airport should be immediately banned from making complaints - these are national assets and must be able to run efficiently.

My choice would be for airports to have (as they once did) wide buffer zones used for low human density use. eg wharehouses, agriculture. Land surrounding airports though has since the airports have been privatised sold off by the private owners of the airports for housing and other use. it also has to be remembered that unlike Heathrow which has a curfew Amsterdam does not.

It would be interesting to know how many of these airports were in isolated areas when 1st built.

I read somewhere, maybe on here, written by buhi, that being constantly exposed to that much aircraft noise can drive you crazy and increase your sex drive to a very dangerous level. Have you noticed any change lately ? They fly over our area on their way in and out, more so coming in for some reason. I barely notice them now and I haven't been affected by it, affected by it, affected by it..........................................................

Land surrounding airports though has since the airports have been privatised sold off by the private owners of the airports for housing and other use. it also has to be remembered that unlike Heathrow which has a curfew Amsterdam does not. Weird planning laws exist in the UK. Private dwellings trump commercial buildings. We owned a popular bar, founded in 1922. The previous owner converted upstairs to four dwellings. Two brothers bought a flat each and moved in. They then started complaining about the noise from the bar. One of them was police - my Dad went nuts one night and kicked his head in. He was standing on the other brothers neck while punching the policeman stupid. What a pallaver. Policeman took the serious threat against his safety seriously - didn't file charges. Reminds me of the time I was in dispute with two police and one reached for his baton. "You take that baton out and you'll wake up in hospital next to your pal here. And tomorrow morning you can explain to your wife it was your choice." "We'll radio the riot squad." "And by the time they get here they'll be radioing two ambulances." Man I was forkin furious that day, pair of pricks. That was around the time I set about four so-called gangsters with a metal bar. One of their pals got me a belter later when he hit me with a hammer. He ended up knocked out with his head lodged below a seven tonner wheel, took eight guys to drag me away from the cabin as I tried to run over his head. <theduck>. Anyway, a petition went in against the pub, and the chairman of the licensing authority said he would only listen to complaints from folk who lived in the street prior to 1922. Complaint thrown out. On a sidenote, I ended up pally with the four gangsters. That other prick got blasted in the face by a shotgun, survived, lost an eye, then got slashed on two separate occasions. Oh, and the police didn't draw their batons or call the riot squad. I still got a ticket though. Bastards. On the bright side, due to a court strike, 3000 cases were dropped and mine was one of them. Jammy bastid, huh?

Amsterdam Airport does have six runways, each with their own restrictions. The Dutch wiki page gives info although the English page doesn't. 1. Polderbaan - may only be used in Northerly direction, route to/from has low population density and is favoured for night time flights 2. Kaagbaan - can be used in both directions but is normally only used in SouthWesterly direction 3. Buitenveldertbaan - can be used in both directions, but is almost only used in Easterly direction 4. Aalsmeerbaan - can only be used in Southerly direction, may not be used between 23:00 - 06:00 5. Zwanenburgbaan - can be used in both directions, may not be used between 23:00 - 06:00 unless both Polderbaan/Kaagbaan unusable (probably related to wind direction?) 6. Oostbaan - can be used in both directions, only used in daytime between 06:00 - 23:00 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amsterdam_Airport_Schipholnl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luchthaven_Schiphol

This is probably the basis of the complaints. Amsterdam has 24 hour operation. Heathrow is totally closed from about midnight till 6am. I do believe there should be 24 hour operation, anything else makes bad use of aircraft and leads to congestion at peak periods. There does need to be buffer zones though and I do not like the way that in Australia the new private owners can sell the buffer zones that exisited within the airport off for housing use.

Thats what you get for flying with Mickey Mouse airways, the bottom feeders are always sent to the end, we snobs in premier airways dont have so far to travel. Last time I exited I was given a shit load of Delft (?) figurines in the shape of houses, made up a whole street with them, pulled the chimney tops off and they were full of diesel fuel aka Jenever. PS, didnt the golf cart meet you on arrival, with a tray of sannies and a bucketload of beer?

Correct, love those orange coloured pantile roof tops. Mrs has got them on pride of display in the display cabinet in the reception room, sure beats the usual crap of Mickey Ds rubbish and Chester Grill plates on display.
