900 pounds is not small change. I heard a rumour paying online with Emirates. If you book economy you get a much cheaper option to upgrade to biz class then if you had just booked biz class. Big saving so the story goes.
You sometimes get an email offering you an upgrade for £350 - I've done that a few times. I landed lucky one time and got bounced into First Class Seat 1A.
On the down side I wasn't feeling well and slept for most of the flight.

Yeah, tb, you're lucky living that close to the airport....Remember, I did that drive once I escaped from that bloody A&E at almost the last minute before Mrs R's plane arrived!! I haven't managed an upgrade on Emirates (still hoping), but did get a free one on Qatar...I was having trouble booking online, so phoned them up. When they basked what seat I wanted, I said as far forward as possible (meaning just get me in front of the engines) and found the lassie had put me in business class.
I've not flown with Qatar yet - I did fly with Etihad and thought they were a poor imitation of Emirates.

Qatar Air is first rate ..... some of the places they fly to make you want to get back on the plane.....

Just a tip on flying from Chiangrai.
I found that if I flew CNX BKK on one ticket and BKK-Per on another it was overr 10000baht cheaper than if I booked straight through on THAI
Similarly if I flew Silkair to SIN and the Singapore Perth on Singapore the same applied.
I had thought the domestic flight would have been cheaper as a straight through

Qatar, Etihad, Emirates in that order....mainly on the last two due to quality of food....and I was first class on Emirates the one time I flew them.
Qatar is way better than the other two.

Etihad are starting flights from Edinburgh June 10 - that's handy enough for me. |

Not sure at present old chap,have some storm damage to the house,roof mainly,tiles off,rain ingress ect hot here again,how is the weather in your neck of the woods ,old chap ,possibly this sunday,as i am be driven nuts,by 2 days with no water in the house,and my wife's freinds, yaking all day over the shop,all they do is eat,talk,eat,talk,eat,eat,eat,sleep,talk,eat,and guess who is paying for the tucker.plus her sick sister who just sits there all day looking like a stunned mullet,and claims she ,never sleeps,all i have seen her do is sleep,she would put a bloody wombat,or sloth to shame,so Yeah,soon buddy.

Cc1's flight kit...a couple of beers befor take off...when on board a sleeping pill and two small btl red wine and a gentle reminder to the trolley dolly to don't wake me up before landing...no food,no entertainment,no nothing just sleep...works always well for me...
