Good news for those in South Australia? Maybe, better read the fine print and write all down. When do the 100 days start for instance "Elon Musk: I can fix South Australia power network in 100 days or it's free The Tesla founder says he can build a 100MW battery storage farm within 100 days or provide the system free of charge Elon Musk, the billionaire co-founder of electric car giant Tesla, has thrown down a challenge to the South Australian and federal governments, saying he can solve the state’s energy woes within 100 days – or he’ll deliver the 100MW battery storage system for free. On Thursday, Lyndon Rive, Tesla’s vice-president for energy products, told the AFR the company could install the 100-300 megawatt hours of battery storage that would be required to prevent the power shortages that have been causing price spikes and blackouts in the state." www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/mar/10/elon-musk-i-can-fix-south-australia-power-network-in-100-days-or-its-free

Maybe a few hundred Mw is a safe way of getting started. Of course E.M. may also count on the Ozzies showing their dissatisfaction in a slightly less violent more civilized way when things might go wrong PS "don't try this at your own home, kids"

I see a croc got another one up in the NT the other day. Roper River, I think. Three of them crossed a river, croc grabbed the last one. I have been in that country, would not be caught dead swimming in those rivers. When I was in Derby in the Kimberleys years ago I used to go fishing off the bank beside the big jetty, flicking lures with a baitcaster. Walked back to the car one day and an old guy said to me that I was game fishing there as it was a popular spot for crocs to lay. Jesus Christ, now you bloody tell me, I had been fishing down there for months. Years later I was walking out on the jetty at low tide and there was a big croc sunbaking on the very spot I had been fishing.

Musk claims success! "Tesla completes its giant Australian Powerpack battery on time Elon Musk saved himself $50 million by easily building it within 100 days. Tesla has completed its 100 megawatt Powerpack battery backup system in South Australia within 100 days (easily), as Elon Musk had promised. That means the company essentially won the "bet," and won't be on the hook for the entire cost of the project, estimated at $50 million. More importantly, it means that some 30,000 homes in South Australia will have a power backup in case there's no breeze at the Hornsdale Wind Farm located about two hours from Adelaide." www.engadget.com/2017/11/23/tesla-australia-powerpack-100-day-bet/

For EPCI and maintance cost ? If i remember my numbers, a nuclear power plant is usd 110 a MW or there abouts

Mind you most projects which result in deliverables which are supposed to last a long time have costs which vary from 'no costs, only a profit' via 'self-financing' to 'black hole like'. All depends on who you ask. In this case one may wonder about the lifetime of the batteries, the solar cells, the cabling infra structure (any rodents out there?) and how things are hooked up to the public electricity network. PS of course for only A$50 million it's a steal

I had to find a village pub on Saturday night here in England.
No streetlight at all and no idea where the pub or indeed even village was.
Of course with google maps and my phone's torch it was a doddle.
Twenty years ago I'd have ended up in a field in Hampshire shagging a cow.
Ahhh the good old days!
