To blaspheme one must have a religious belief. To utter an expression of whatever, emphasising the emotion is fine by me. There can be no logical law against it. If deliberately offensive, inappropriate, causing unnecessary hurt to another's sensitivities or to one (too young) to comprehend, then indeed discretion is required.

To blaspheme one must have a religious belief. No, to blaspheme other people must have religious belief. If the idiots who believe in God, Allah, Yahweh and the rest of them realised how ludicrous their beliefs were (spoiler: there is no invisible sky wizard meddling in the affairs of men) there would be no blasphemers. For example, if I were to declare openly in Saudi Arabia that Mohammed was a vile paedophile, rapist and bloody warmonger I'd suffer (even though the statement is 100% factually accurate). That's nothing to do with my religious beliefs, but the potential penalty for blasphemy comes from the irrational beliefs of others.

Will the world be a better place of blasphemy laws were abolished? The blasphemy laws should be abolished, replaced by laws covering deliberately offending a person with the same penalties for all offences like that religeous or not.

Will the world be a better place of blasphemy laws were abolished? The blasphemy laws should be abolished, replaced by laws covering deliberately offending a person with the same penalties for all offences like that religeous or not. Really? If I, hypothetically, were deliberately to call you a bobble-headed nincompoop, and to do so were to offend you, do you really believe I should suffer a penalty? (a) The statement might be accurate (i.e. we're in Thailand defamation territory, where truth is no defence), or (b) you might be overly sensitive in taking offence. I do, however, agree that blasphemy laws should be abolished. There's absolutely nothing wrong with insulting somebody if they foolishly believe in an non-existent deity (or deities). What is particularly egregious is where the penalty for commenting on the ludicrous nature of religious belief is based upon those very same ludicrous beliefs à la Shariah law.

Personally I dislike foolish language, but think there are enough laws on that to be able to cover blasphemy as well. I suggest to remove the redundant.

"One man attending said: "Because of what he did, the whole of Pakistan knows who he is.""
He's Tanveer Ahmed, a convicted murderer, but it would go too far to really blame his family back in Pakistan. No need to protest outside his parent's home.
