The scary part is that 80% are killed not trying to kill or pick up the snake.

Yeah, that's always my first thought whenever I see a snake- "Hey! I'd like to pick that up! Let's have a go!"

Would never happen to me, I don't try picking them up or killing them.
I usually head south when I see one.
Although there was that one time when I was building my house and a Taipan crawled under the window I was fitting. Unfortunately for him I had a nailing gun in my hands which can be used like a machine-gun if you know how.

The scary part is that 80% are killed not trying to kill or pick up the snake. They are the masters of disguise. Poor bugger walking along a track, steps on the rotten thing's tail and it spins around and bites the guy's leg. Takes about .5 of a second. Mate of mine said to me one day as we were walking along a bush trail "Why are you carrying that stick" ? and I told him it was to fight snakes off with. Good idea he says, I'll do that as well. Sees a nice stick on the edge of the trail, bends down to pick it up except it was the tail of a brown snake. He could have won an Olympic medal he jumped so high. I was still laughing an hour later.  |
