I have been able to access the drawings and images for the propsed new embassies courtesy of a staffer in the local administration in BKK. Actually I have seen them elsewhere....a big heap of red mud blocks to pretend to be Aeres Rock/Ularu or whatever. I remember where an office floor in Silom above a bank enough. THen they got upity and had to show off so they spent millions on the one at Sathorn, now billions on the one where they are going. There is one thing that will not change...the lack of decent service to its nationals. $100 extra on the most expensive passport in the world because we are overseas. See where it goes. www.bouygues-construction.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Aust-Embassy-Thailand-banner.jpg

Why isnt the person in the photo in his national costume ?.....a can of XXXX in his hand, a shrimp on the barbie, and a floppy hat with wine corks hanging down ?

I bet the Aussies, Brits, and Canadians end up in the Trendy Office building down Sukhumvit. Well, for the Consular Section an office type of location could very well be 'cost effective'. It's the more shady business and commerce related part which give an Embassy it's real function. Still do you need a square block like the Ozzie Embassy, or what the Brits have (had?). The grounds of the Netherlands Embassy have been divided a little bit with the Consular Section clearly fenced off/in to keep the normal public from the hallowed grounds. Separate entrance, looks real 'service as a business' like. Meanly the other side still has the romantic, old-fashioned magic of the Colonial Times. Not sure for how long though.

^^ If you are trying to make me feel guilty by pointing out the atrocities committed by the early settlers on the Australian natives, forget it. Or for the way they are treated today for that matter. I think of those people who did that to the Australian Aborigines exactly the same as I think of the whites in South Africa who terrorised the blacks, cruel and heartless white supremacist scum. The difference between me and average Saffa is I don't condone that sort of treatment.

In the event of the Australian Embassy does Sir Les get a new office as well as Kevin and Nigel too?

Rumour is the Aussies are selling it to the Chinese Rumour has it, they will be sub leasing it to a roti seller on suk soi 3, right next door to the brit house kebab seller. The Ozzys are smart enuff to still be in discussions before making an announcement, they want to ensure the roti seller has a motorcy and can reach outlying provincies. The Brits were shafted, Johnny Turk had only a bicycle and can only operate as far as On Nut, hence the cries from the nether regions. Rumours of Johnny Turk sub leasing the set up to a Bangla for 10% per day have yet to be confirmed, please see Boris (The Turk) Johnson for details.

In the case of the Brits its rather difficult as Central Embassy overlooks the house. The security issues that poses are insurmountable really and it would be a very easy terrorist target indeed. Quedtion is...where will the ambassador live once its gone?

Quedtion is...where will the ambassador live once its gone? The British Government can buy a nice condo in one of the more luxurious high-rises in and around Bangkok. For use by the ambassador and his family. How many of the Embassy staff currently live at the embassy?

Very few....they built houses for them to live in back in 2009 I believe but they were full of damp and mould and never used.
A typical Brit house <duck> up.
Tbey are consequently housed at great expense elsewhere.
The house itself of course is large enough for the current ambassador...his husband and their child I suppose.
