Scottish boxer Jordan Coe dies in Thailand of suspected heatstroke A Scottish Muay Thai boxer has died in Thailand of suspected heatstroke on Sunday. Jordan Coe, 20, was found dead in a heavy tracksuit and is believed to have been trying to reach a certain weight for a professional fight. Mr Coe, of Maddiston, Falkirk was a professional Muay Thai boxer and formerly trained at a gym in Glasgow. Trainer Kritchai Kritnok told police that the 20-year-old went out with the heavy clothing to try to shred three kilograms (6.6 pound) so that he could meet the 61-kg limit for a bout on Sunday, the Bangkok Post reported. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/26/scottish-boxer-jordan-coe-dies-thailandof-suspected-heatstroke/

A terrible way to die, condolences to his family and friends.
It is hard to imagine what someone would feel like if they had it bad enough to die from it. I had it one summer in Australia, doing a shutdown in a big sawmill. Only thing I ever had that made me feel that bad was pneumonia and a severe red wine hangover.

Suffered from it many a year back and as said, ''a horrific affliction.''
Such a waste of a young life or any other persons life for that matter.
Hopefully the gyms and the trainers here will start to warn their members of this often unknown and often unacknowledged danger from too rigorous training programme.

I went home from work a bit earlier than usual, got home about 3.00pm, threw up, a fell asleep for 8 hours straight. Woke up at 11.00pm as thirsty as hell with a massive headache and nausea. Terrible feeling.

When outside temperature reaches the same height as your normal body temperature you have to start to become careful. Forget about extreme outdoor exercising, drink lots of water, don't forget intake of salt.

You'd be surprised how clueless many Thai Muay Thai trainers are - and others are feckless. Too many have zero duty of care ethic to their fighters, especially foreigners. I've stopped several fights from taking place, on one famous occasion it caused a brawl in the gym. Three stories:
1. Good French fighter was asked to stand in for a boxer who had scratched from a fight. Big fight card in BKK, this guy had to drop 6 kilo in a week. 15,000 baht purse, and a chance to impress big BKK promoters was the drive.
The Thai guy knocked utter fork out of him. You should have seen the state of this guy, not just defeated but beaten to a pulp. Still bruised a month later. The beating was so bad the guy was never the same again. That 6 kilo drained his strength.
2. Young American guy, impressionable type. Lined up for a fight after two weeks, didn't have a clue about technique. "5% technique," said my trainer. Word came in his opponent was handy, twelve fights. It would have been a slaughter. I stopped the fight from going ahead. My trainer agreed, he was the gym owner and the guy was being trained by another trainer who paid to use the gym.
Got heated, resulted in a brawl between the Thais. My trainer said - "he will fight under the name of my gym. I cannot allow someone so bad to fight for this gym." Purse? 2,000 baht.
3. Big Australian guy, "20% technique," and a brawler. My trainer told him not to fight, I told him not to fight, he went ahead. Dislocated his ankle. Purse? 3,000 baht.
The list is endless.
