Thailand's Ex-tourism Chief Gets 50 Years for Taking Bribes Bangkok (AP) -- The former head of Thailand's tourism promotion board was sentenced on Wednesday to 50 years in prison for accepting $1.8 million in bribes from two Hollywood producers to let them organize the Bangkok International Film Festival a decade ago. A court established last year to hear corruption cases found Juthamas Siriwan guilty on 11 counts, each carrying a six-year sentence, but prison sentences are capped at 50 years under Thai law. Her daughter Jittisopa, into whose accounts the money was transferred, was found guilty on 11 counts for which she received a 44-year prison sentence. Juthamas was also ordered to forfeit the bribe money. The Central Court for Corruption and Misconduct, set up to hear cases against state officials accused of graft and misconduct, is part of the Criminal Court. It denied a request to allow the women to be freed on bail. www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-03-29/thailand-s-ex-tourism-chief-gets-50-years-for-taking-bribes

Ffs thats a harsh sentence considering fabien blandford walked after was it 6 months for being a kiddy fiddler.
I'd almost think her taking 1.8million dollars bribe has some of them jealous so there's 50 years and 44 years for the daughter. It does restore a tiny tiny bit of faith that corruption is not welcome in Thailand.

If they jailed every person in Thailand who was guilty of taking bribes even the people who ran the prisons would be locked up. WhoTF would look after the prisoners ?

For me, the big surprise is that both she and her daughter have been denied bail pending an appeal. They really are behind bars, and for the moment at least, have no chance of going for a prolonged holiday in Dubai.

^ They should declare themselves as being in "self imposed exile".
