Had a drinking friend years ago who was a logistics expert for Sainsburys. He and his team measured every route possible to the inch as well as multiple load drop loading and unloading order to achieve the most economical delivery costs. Their left turns were swapped for right turns of course in the U K
No computers, all slide rules and written maths calculations, It worked too it was proved 90% effective overall when computer modelling was implemented and took over the tasks

Interesting, blether !
A guy told me years ago that a lot of BKK taxis do something similar, to do with turning across oncoming traffic.
If destination is on the right, on the other side of a busy intersection, they drive past it and take the first left, first left, first left again and then straight through that busy intersection.
For some reason it saves time and is easier.
