I follow the diy forum, hoping to pick up on a few tips or help out at times. One current thread where the op is clearly asking about portable module air conditioning units verses a window mounted air conditioner. The whole thread they are batting on about those evaporating water fan units. Not even remotely related to the thread title and the op hasn't been since. Just typical. You'd just go the refrigerated split system surely? Those evaporative systems are nothing more than a sea breeze at best. Or go for the the plastic sprite bottle full of ice hanging on the back of a fan. |

They are totally confused between an evaporative system and a portable refrigerated air conditioner (basically a ducted split system on wheels) which is clearly what the op was asking about. Absolutely nothing to do with swamp coolers. Again it always seems to go back into the whole I know Thailand better than you and you should listen to me like a prophet mentality. |

Yeah and that's not just the occasional thread , its every thread. They all end in arguments about things that had zero to do with the original post  . It's sadly pathetic. Like I said before , my other forum has heaps of members and the topics stay on topic , and without any bitterness. Maybe that forum isnt normal and tvf is normal. |

I think it's natural for conversations to meander. I think it's the abusive tone that's the problem at times. A forum I read has excellent moderators who will merge or split threads. So if someone asks about AC for example, then a convo starts about microwaves, the mods will split the microwave content out and start a new thread. TVF mods are too effin lazy for that. Or maybe thick. Donno. The thing that beats me about TVF is their determination to destroy the General forum. It used to be the second busiest forum after News, maybe it still is. Some clown in the mod team seems to think that every thread should be moved to the "appropriate sub-forum." Wrong. George stated it was a forum where people could vent and discuss various issues. There used to be some legendary characters and threads in there. Last time I looked it was a car crash. |

tvf banned all of the interesting posters and are now left with dross.
A few used to return under new nicks but have become bored with it now and so its a graveyard inhabited with those awaiting the imminent call of the grim reaper.
Best place for em I reckon!

The mods are the main reason it's a dumping ground for trolls and dropkicks.
They, the mods, are either out of control a-la the CIA, or they are simply doing what they are told by "upstairs" (they are in a basement somewhere)
Either way they should be ashamed of themselves for destroying what used to be a good forum for seeking out information and a bit of friendly banter.
