I personally think its the demographic

1. Some are bitter cos they visited or lived in Thailand and had to leave and will say anything to slag the place off 

2. Some are bitter because they are basically trapped in Thailand, ie threw their lot in with a rice farmers daughter, built the McMansion and bought the pick up in Issan with their lifes savings and are now living on their state pensions in isolation and hate their existance, only solice is in booze or whinging on an English language forum 

3. Some are just "broken" in the head and delusional 

I think the 2nd group make up the vast majority of TV members 

It's still odd that the common interest is Thailand yet people have such hatred towards one and other.

My other forum is also based on a common interest but not a bad word is said.

Years ago, a guy I know died at thirty-seven.

Within a few months, his cousin, who was also his best pal, was banging the guys wife.

Every dog in the street knew it.

The sisters of the dead man went into denial. They couldn't accept or allow themselves to believe that their cousin was riding this so-called grieving widow.

It was a form of betrayal, and easier to self-delude than accept the hurtful to them truth.

When they discovered once and for all that it was true, the level of rage and bitterness was terrifying. Betrayal is a dangerous emotion trigger.

In an upcoming book, I'll be asking people to ask themselves "was he/she betrayed?" When they read or hear stories in connection with Thai forums and Thai Life. If they decide yes, then that will explain the vicious and long lasting reaction.

Now the phrase we use is self-delusion. In reality, it is self-betrayal.

The balanced individual will hold his hand up and say "my fault." He'll learn from it and move on. In fact, he'll even tell you it was his fault in the hope that you learn from HIS mistake.

A real man, or woman.

The social spastics will never, ever do that.

The social spastics will never, ever accept responsibility.

And this defines social spastics.

The mods over there are a different cup of tea.

Back in the day they had some outstanding and knowledgable moderators and the forum was relatively straight and fair.

In recent years the smart ones left as they clearly saw themselves as basically unpaid lackeys.

That leaves the second group as explained above....lonely old men on a power trip.

In any case their forum is withering away....most of the posts now are by their doomrooster news guy.

I follow the diy forum, hoping to pick up on a few tips or help out at times.
One current thread where the op is clearly asking about portable module air conditioning units verses a window mounted air conditioner.
The whole thread they are batting on about those evaporating water fan units. Not even remotely related to the thread title and the op hasn't been since.
Just typical.

I just see it as everyone thinks they know Thailand better than the next , like it's a badge of honour or something. Then once they get onto a Thai forum it becomes their platform to bignote them selves and let others feel smaller than them. What a joke.
