The train enthusiasts would weep if they visited Khao Fachi in Ranong Province.

Not for from your place Mick. Dorrigo, dumping ground for old locos and some rolling stock. This is my vision of Hades. Attachment Deleted

This is the neglected train the British Army left as a reminder to the Thais. The Thais quite happily mostly ignore it, and a safe bet only a few know why it's there. I wonder if they would miss the headlamp? It would look great in my pergola.

The sources I find for that engine is that it is a Hitachi Engine manafactured in 1950. Could you clarify the bit about the British...of course I may be wrong as I am not a train expert.

Nice post there me , it's stirred my curiosity so I'll start poking around to see what can be found. There are a number of differences concerning the loco numbers in the link too. This link below may assist in identifying the loco in question. The loco No.962 shown in the original image above seems to be a Mikado class and that loco was not manufactured and delivered until 1947 www.kyoto-seika.ac.jp/researchlab/wp/wp-content/uploads/kiyo/pdf-data/no27/david.pdf

The train isn't British, but the trains running from Chumpon to Khao Fachi didn't last the war I believe. I thought the type was the same as was left there. In the river just upstream is what looks like an island, is in fact a ship wreck. It was sunk by American bombers. Khao Fachi hill was used as a lookout to keep an eye on British Empire forces over in Burma. The train was originally in Thonburi. www.internationalsteam.co.uk/trains/thaipreserved.htm
