There's a large element of boiling frog syndrome in this, the party was great but then it finished, some didn't notice and forgot to go home. But age becomes an issue in this also, when you get to 70 and you've been here for a while it's questionable whether the upheaval of moving to another country is worth the effort or indeed even viable. Personally, I'm very pleased I bought my flat in Lancaster, I'm looking forward to summer in The Lakes starting May, afterwards, I'll be better equipped mentally to deal with Thailand and all its vagaries.

Australia is fine. Keep it simple. Own your own modest home. Drive a couple of 4 cylinder cars. Grow a few veges. Splurge the rest on overseas trips and restaurants if you can afford it. The ones that come unstuck buy a plane, bloody big boat, a handful of 4wds and a mansion they will never own.

I wouldn't live full time in Thailand if it were free. The weather p**ses me 9 months of the year for a start. I know one, been here 30 years and says he hates the place. Too hot. Well it is a point and if I was carrying as much weight as him I would probably feel the same. Some apposite stuff on here. The party is over but some forgot to go home. Boiling frog syndrome. I was just trying to impress saying apposite.

When us farang types get too old to work and cut our financial and/or emotional ties with the West is usually where the trouble begins....particularly if the move East is based on a few holidays and dreaming of swaying palm trees rather than the grinding boredom of another week of Netflix before Dave from the pub's subscription runs out.

I'm too old to work in the fee earning sence but in the past year I've worked harder physically than I have for years ..... renovate the UK flat, come back to Thailand and catch up on the backlog of repairs caused by harsh weather and then fix the garden....come May it'll be painting, decorating and more, and so the cycle repeats - and I thought retirement was going to be easy!

I tried stuffing one in a large suitcase and putting it in the hold but BA caught on and were not best pleased. And what with all these equal and human rights laws it's not possible any longer to tow them behind the Rolls on roller skates and a long leash up the M6, I was getting frosty stares from some, for whatever reason. So yes, times have changed and not for the better I might add, ask Mrs Chiang Mai, she now has to pull double duty.

Let's not p**s about, I came for competitively priced women and beer. Effing predictive text, don't know where that lot came from. I came here seeking enlightenment amidst the temples and the meditation. It is true that I factored in the beautiful beaches and the delicious Thai street food but no more tham that. Anyone saying different will hear from my legal peopla, when I can find any sober and cheap enough.

Pity his campaign for a new social order didn't last long, but he got Clinton Plaza and the WhiteHouse on Sukhumvit closed and of course closing times 'adjusted' in general. Great man, obviously Purasnow
