Regulations. You To send any packet in australia you need your 100 points of ID too. I believe it is the same in the UK. Reason is that people started blowing up planes. Postal items go on planes. No one wants planes blown up and identification and barcoded parcels can help identify whose goods were on the plane. sorry I am out of date....this applied a few years ago but they have changed it now to in Australia

How odd. I send letters to the US and UK monthly and always register them, I'm never asked for ID and never have been, must be a local thing.

How odd. I send letters to the US and UK monthly and always register them, I'm never asked for ID and never have been, must be a local thing. Nine out of ten of these requirements are never asked of me. I can remember over at TVF reading things like this and thinking "That's funny, I have been here for years and have done that same thing many times and have never been asked that" Have done countless border crossings and have never been asked to prove I had money on return. Have been asked for things a couple of times and just looked dumb and said "Mai mee" and they let it slide. My wife was getting the registration for our Isuzu changed from CR to CM years ago. My ex had forgotten to sign one of the many pages of document. Girl behind the counter said to my wife, rather than send it all the way back to CR and wait for it to return, "do you think you could copy her signature" ? FFS, that would never happen in Australia !

You all seem to have missed the point. The post office in question was previously staffed by people i knew. I was big boss in that place. Still recognised as such by most. Ten baht stamp. Idiot did not know two five baht stamps, phoned to ask. What the hell?

Its because westerners arent made to feel welcome. Hip, that is the sort of crap I used to see on TVF every day. I have been living here for probably 10 years all up in the last 12 years, and I have never once been made to feel like I was not welcome. I have been made to feel like that back in Australia though and dread having to go back there these days.

I'm glad you said that, I was getting worried that I was the only person who wasn't feeling unwelcome here, I was feeling left out and unloved on TVF because I wasn't feeling unwelcome - how's that for a complex.

Sure because i am the farang, but also as of being here so very long. Do i need to ask family? Know where you live.

Yes i am known here, that makes most things easy. Be it anything.I do not use influence, but it exists. I hailed down a taxi this morning, with my wife, signed going other way. He stopped, knew my message, do a u turn at the petrol station.. Unfortunately he sort of blocked the entrance to our soi.Not blocked , but a neighbour was turning in and beeped repeatedly. I got out of the taxi and guided him through the gap. Will he seek revenge?
