Every year I make around 4 long haul flights, I was thinking that I really should enroll in some kinda air miles program. I'll probably go with One World. Now, the best way to get a nice nest egg of miles quickly would be to take a club class flight, right? One of the advantages of Myanmar is that there really is very little to spend money on, so I'm prepared to turn left. It does seem an extravagance for around 17 hours of travel, though. Worth it? I am leaning towards thinking it is- arriving rested, not crammed next to a total stranger and decent food. Last flight back to the UK was made miserable by an unwashed backpacker and raging drunk sexpat. They didn't get on and voiced it. Never again

In Business Class one must guard ones cheese diligently as one member on here neglected to his cost and displeasure .

Four long haul flights is fine and will get you Silver on the BA program if you do them with Qatar stopping in the ME.
On BA you would be 40 pts short due to it being one flight each time and not two.
For airmiles aka avios you should look at partner credit cards.

One other thing.
Its all about the seat....pick the cheapest biz class seat almost every time since the F&B and lounges etc don't matter really.
Nor does alcohol....dry planes can be a lot cheaper and bonus of no drunk azzholes in the cabin.
Airline status is great but I didn't use mine at all last year....total waste of effort if that is the case.

Difficult flying business with family. We use "premium economy" when we can.

Ended up booking a flight on Sri Lanken in the end- they are part of One World, an alliance that has many Asian carriers, which is why I chose it. The 200% on miles didn't hurt either. Actually looking forward to a flight for once

Don't listen to that cheese thief
Good lounges transform the journey. You don't mind arriving three or four hours early, you don't mind longer connections. Smokie rarely flies with the premium carriers, the BA lounges at Heathrow are poor, for example.
I value the ancillary services provided by Emirates at £300 minimum. You could make an argument for £400. That includes free limo transport to and from the airport, both sides. Here lies a prime example -
Would you pay 900 baht to be met by your driver, walk 100 metres, and be driven downtown BKK in an air-conditioned Isuzu four wheel drive - or pay 400 baht for the privilege of standing in the public rank and being driven downtown in a cramped airport taxi that can barely hold a decent sized suitcase?
For the sake of a rotten tenner.......????

All subjective dear boy...I'm quite happy to take a couple of bags of crisps with me if it saves me £300...you're just spoilt laddie.

For short hops, Business is not worth it, but for long hauls most definitely worth it...my current favourite is Qatar...

I tend to always end up on BKK Air for short hops to Thailand- work seem to have some sort of deal with them. Always very impressed by them; decent food and wines and the lounge is a nice touch for a light lunch before the flight. One thing I don't understand concerning flights the the Ryanair hate, for the price one pays it's decent. Never had an issue with them and I use them a lot! The bacon sarnie and beer is a winning combo!

And wasn't that for a seat he personally never paid for, it was the one you all had a whip round for?
