You was ''fleeced,'' round my way 60 baht, mind you no stamps, but a nice female barber though!!! In some things I'm rather old fashioned. I go to an old-fashioned barbershop. At times lots of schoolboys but mostly decent workingclass types, a few in the military / police force. Only females are the mothers accompanying kids (or husband). Used to be 60 baht but the two old guys retired handing over to a (slightly) younger generation. They added airco and the price went up 20 Baht. These are the times we have to live in Did they ask if you needed anything for the weekend?

Started as an apprentice electrician in 1972 for I.C.I. When I took redundancy early 2003, the job had become Engineering Support at Syngenta still on the same site. I worked 12 hour days, with more time off than school kids. Bloody good money. I left because the shift pattern was changing, and it was more days for less shift money. So I thought budder that, and here I am a professional layabout.

I worked there for about three months as a fill-in job, it was an amazing place and the best paying job around.

Dad had stopped working by then, and what with text books, bus fares etc. It cost my parents in that 1st 15 months. We got 2 rises a year though, an annual one and our birthday. In the 2nd year, how they paid apprentices improved, and things were a lot better. I paid income tax before dad did .

I worked shift work there for a few months and it was very well paid, I remember that on payday our wages would appear in brown envelopes in the time card slot where we clocked in and out, hundreds of these brown envelopes in an unprotected and unguarded area. When I quit to take up a job in London the personnel manager came to see me and yelled at me for quitting, there must have been thousands of people working there yet he came and yelled at me, it was a bit surreal. On my last day I got moved off the line and had to spend my last shift clawing orange goop out of twenty-gallon drums with my hands, it was solidified sheep dip that had sat on a dock in Australia for god knows how long and then been returned for reprocessing....the barsteward.

I was sent to measure something in N.E. area. I'd never set foot in that part of the site. I came out of the shed and was lost. Too embarrassed to ask directions. Eventually spotted Basic Colours, and the main avenue. 76 I was put in the maintainance gang in N.E. Life is fickle, I'd go with mum shopping to Huddersfield. See the morning shift coming out, covered in dye. I'd think I'm not working there .

^^^, that looks like a, ber sam, to me, ber neung sabai sabai, aka sakinhead. A number two, to be specific, aka skinhead as my barber keeps telling me. I wondered about a number one, but the chap told me that wouldn't look so distinguished as the buzzcut I'm walking with now

See the morning shift coming out, covered in dye. I'd think I'm not working there . We had annual apprentice award. There was only 2 electricians in my year. He was also an ex classmate from Wheelwright, and not too popular there. He didn't change much at work. After I'd won it 3 years on the trot. He says. "I don't understand the awards. I'm brainier than you, but you always win, why?" I replied. "You're lazy, you take too much time off, and the electricians don't like you. It might be the foremen who mark your performance at work, but who do you think the foreman asks about your ability? The shop floor. To say you're smarter than me, and you haven't worked it out tells me a lot about you."
