I looked out over the condo balcony ten minutes ago and surveyed the progress of the coffin box sized condos going up all around and sighed.
The area directly in view is taken up by two blocks which for reasons best not mentioned unlikely to be demolished which is of some relief to me.
Then I saw it....the football pitch has been razed to the ground.
I'm shocked....the tennis court and entire sports centre will likely follow....that to me is a travesty.
A sad morning here.

You'd think they'd demolish the monstrosities left over from the financial crisis and use that land first.

And that is the reason I never stay in Bangkok longer than the necessary over-nighter. Give me a rice paddy anytime.

You'd think they'd demolish the monstrosities left over from the financial crisis and use that land first. On the BangNa Trad (just next to Central BangNa) there is a derelict half finished high rise that was abandoned during the 1998 crash which they have just resumed works on. It basically got to the shell stage and it was then left to perish, looking like the abandoned buildings in Sim City 3,000. Considering that it was just the shell and that the re-bar has been exposed for over 20 years, one would hope that they have carried out full tests to ensure that the structure is not fatigued in any way. However, as this is Thailand..............................................................

But Smokie you're talking about downtown Bangkok right? Of course it's gonna be all highrises. Developers are trying to make as much money as possible.

Definition of raze razed; razing transitive verb 1 a archaic : erase b : to scrape, cut, or shave off 2 : to destroy to the ground : demolish raze an old building
