I'm currently here in the Big Mango (the city, not the forum) on a visa run. The flight was smooth, I wandered around Pratunam for a couple hours looking for those boots (Yes, size 42 is big for ladies footwear - most styles didn't even come that large), found some reasonable facsimilies and made my way down here to Sathorn where I'd booked a hotel near the Myanmar embassy.
When I checked in, I couldn't find my passport! Where is it? I dumped the contents of my backpack out onto the counter. I was sweating from the hot walk from the BTS - now I was sweating because I couldn't find my passport!
I've lost it. The hotel almost wouldn't allow me to check in. My Myanmar drivers license was barely enough for them.
I've called (or the hotel staff did for me) the Platinum Fashion Mall office, the lost & found at Suvarnabumi, and submitted a lost article report with the BTS... I've even visited my friendly neighborhood Royal Thai Police office. I pray it turns up. If it doesn't, I'll have to go to the US Embassy to get an emergency replacement.
It gets worse. Tomorrow (Monday) is Memorial Day, a US national holiday and so the American embassy is closed. Tuesday is Waisak, Buddha's Birthday, so the embassy is closed. Per policy, no passport issues can be processed on the last Wednesday of the month... so Wednesday is a no-go. I'm going have to wait until Thursday for a replacement!
My boss is not going to be happy with me as I had classes to teach on each of those days.
Well, at least I'll have a nice mini-holiday in Bangkok!

Got that already. They didn't even asked me where I lost it... and I wouldn't be able to answer anyways.
That's the thing about losing something. People always ask, "Well, where did you lose it?" I have no idea! If I did, I would just go back there and get it!

Bummer man, a prime example of why I never have my passport on me.
Airport to hotel, check in, passport in safe.

I carry my passport down my pants. Makes me walk funny but never been pick pocketed. Try Khao San road. You can choose whatever nationality you want.

Tomorrow morning, due to the holidays this week, I have my first opportunity this week to sit down with a consular representative at the US Embassy. It's no certain thing, armed only with my Myanmar DL, that I'll be able to convince the embassy official that I am, in fact, me. After 4 days here in Bangkok I need to get back to Yangon. Any much more time here, I could lose my job. Wish me luck. Fortunately, there's proof of me being me on lots of places on the Internet going back nearly 20 years... so I got that.

It's really painful.
Mine turned out to have fallen out inside a taxi. It turned up silently without explanation in the mail from an unknown address many, many months after being of any use anymore and after considerable grief and expense to replace it and my various permissions.
It's an embarrassing monumental blunder hopefully no one has to go through twice.
As already mentioned, make sure you claim in the police report that it was lost within the jurisdiction of that police office. Shouldn't be a concern in your case, but if you have to go home to another province and then tell the police there that you lost it in Bangkok, they'll tell you you have to go back to Bangkok to file the report. I ended up going to another police station in that provincial city and telling them that... golly gee... I think I dropped it in the street somewhere right in the neighborhood of their office.

Tell them your name is Mohammad and you're from Switzerland and you demand to be sent home.

They were very friendly and helpful there at the greatest embassy in the world. A photocopy of my old passport and my Myanmar DL were all I needed to prove my identity. Police report, itinerary showing I've got a flight booked for the weekend and a couple forms (and 4,875 Baht), approved! I do enjoy Bangkok, but this week may cost me a week's pay (on top of the expenses of being here) or a week's vacation, and I'm glad it's almost over. Picking up the emergency replacement tomorrow.
