"Genoa bridge collapse Italy bridge collapse: 39 dead as minister calls for resignations Transport minister says senior management of Genoa bridge operator ‘must step down’ Italy’s transport minister has called on senior managers at the company that operated the collapsed Genoa motorway bridge to resign, as the death toll rose to at least 39. Rescuers searched overnight for survivors through tons of concrete and steel under the shattered structure of the Morandi Bridge. “We’re not giving up hope, we’ve already saved a dozen people from under the rubble,” a fire official, Emanuele Giffi, told AFP. “We’re going to work round the clock until the last victim is secured.” It is not yet clear what caused the bridge to collapse, which came as maintenance work was being done on the bridge and as the Liguria region experienced torrential rainfall." www.theguardian.com/world/2018/aug/15/genoa-bridge-collapse-death-toll-italy-minister-calls-resignationsMeanwhile "... However, Toninelli’s party, the 5Star Movement, was criticized in the aftermath of the collapse for including the Morandi bridge on a list of infrastructure projects to which planned improvements were at risk of being scrapped “if the costs outweigh the benefits.” A page on the 5Stars website that described concerns about structural problems with the bridge as a “children’s tale” was removed (a screenshot is here.) ..." www.politico.eu/article/italy-needs-marshall-plan-after-bridge-disaster-says-minister/

One engineer quoted on BBC said the upkeep of the bridge was more expensive than demolishing it and building a new one..

Authorities fear that the collapsed bridge in Genoa was made with 'Mafia' concrete.
They've found 6 more bodies than there were people missing.

Note the usual Italian bluster you mean. It's always nice to be able to blame someone else especially when you're implicated "However, Toninelli’s party, the 5Star Movement, was criticized in the aftermath of the collapse for including the Morandi bridge on a list of infrastructure projects to which planned improvements were at risk of being scrapped “if the costs outweigh the benefits.” A page on the 5Stars website that described concerns about structural problems with the bridge as a “children’s tale” was removed (a screenshot is here.) So the Italians are at fault are they. Perhaps the Italians have more of a sense of the realities of the E U dictatorship than you.

So the Italians are at fault are they. Perhaps the Italians have more of a sense of the realities of the E U dictatorship than you. THe Italians have more sense of the money lost in corrupt businesses. That's why they look upon Brussels to help them. But you knew that, didn't you? You just couldn't resist a jab at what you like to call the E.U. dictatorship. One may be excuses to wonder why PM May and her cabinet are desperately trying to convince the E.U. and fellow PMs that a deal is for the good of the E.U. Don't they care about the people back home?

Brussels to help. The place is totally corrupt, the truth is unknown in fact banned in Brussels. The U K is leaving. You start to sound like Trump with his twits on 'fake news' and 'witch hunts'. Here it would seem we have a bridge which was build by Italians and which after forty or more years in use partially collapsed. The (Italian) political powers in the area suggested just before that there was nothing wrong with their bridge. Now it shifted to blaming an (Italian) company and Brussels of course. After all Brussels doesn't like it when a member state spends more money than they earn and has no strategy to bring spending in line with ACCEPTED norms like not more than 3% deficit on National Budget. THe populist plans of lowered taxes, increased pensions and some other nice stuff doesn't sound like within reason. Even the Greeks would be against helping Italy after all they went through the get their house cleaned up.

Do grow up rubl. Your E U lickspittle posts concerning that your views are the only views that are so well informed so as such they are beyond dispute in their content really display your true colours.
Why if the E U is such a paradise are you not back there within its community?
One does wonder why as you appear to be such a genius on the internal affairs of the E U and other countries political, financial and social issues as to why you are not the right hand man to Juncker?
Oh perhaps you are and are tasked in helping to fill Junckers wine glasses for him as well as your self.

There's nothing in the topic which justifies kicking and screaming at the EU organisation unless you want to condemn them for not having cut down Italian Mafia forcefully. Should they have sent in an army spearheaded with some crack SAS troops? A bridge which may have failed because of . poor initial build . heavy use / heavy traffic . poor maintenance . some stupidity by people who were now on-site doing repairs. . all of the above?? You must be getting real desperate if you want to blame this on Brussels.

"EU budget chief Oettinger hits back at Salvini over bridge collapse Budget commissioner says it’s ‘very human’ to blame others after tragedy. EU budget chief Günther Oettinger hit back at Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini’s suggestion that EU rules are in part to blame for a deadly bridge collapse, saying it is “very human” to blame someone else. “It is very human to look for somebody to blame, when terrible accident happens as #Genova,” Oettinger tweeted Thursday, adding that the EU has already funded Italian roads and trains to the tune of €2.5 billion in the current long-term budget cycle. ... “Under agreed fiscal rules, member states are free to set specific policy priorities, for instance the development and maintenance of infrastructure,” Spahr added. “In fact, the EU has encouraged investment in infrastructure in Italy.” ..." www.politico.eu/article/oettinger-eu-budget-chief-hits-back-at-salvini-over-genoa-bridge-collapse/
