And we are supposed to look up to people like this. I suppose this is what comes of educating the lower orders. Yes rott I escaped from my council estate some years ago....as did many of us and they are the poorer for it I shall add. Sink estate escapee here, took my mrs to visit it, her words, "klong toey farang"

The ones who left or the locations they left behind? A bit more clarity would help.

I blame comprehensive education, bring back grammar schools, the lower orders cannot compute. Half the girls in my class had checked out by the time they were 14 or 15, up the duff already, dreaming of some Thai man coming over to buy them a house and land, pay a massive dowry and give them an income every month. Yes, not sure that comprehensives were any sort of improvement. Not too clear on the last para, they were looking for a Thai to bale them out and pay the bills? I am surprised that any/many 14 or 15 year olds in those days had heard of Thailand. And the revered rgs is another from humble beginnings? BM is on the way to being a real life "Four Yorkshiremen" sketch.

Think allegory or metaphor, dont see too many middle class Thai guys studying abroad marrying Big Senga with her 5 kids from 3 different fathers living on social on some sink estate, never mind, the white knight farangs know better.

If I had a kid in the comprehensive UK system who showed the intelligence to pass a few highers I'd be investing heavily in private evening or weekend tuition as its the only way such kids can fulfill their potential and level the playing field against privately educated kids.
Don't believe me...?
Its the way forward for us pikeys trust ol' smokie.
Edit to say the comp system will get a bright kid a B or C pass....to get the A passes and distinctions they really need a fantastic teacher... rare in comps....or private one on one tuition.
So in fact the system at the top end is totally flawed Mr Corbyn.

I was or am a product of the old much-maligned Grammar School system. That was of course before the comprehensive system came into operation. The comprehensive system in many cases lowered the academic achievement levels so as to achieve equality parity whatever one may wish to call it. Notice how with the OFSTED system (which is under threat) top-scoring schools become academies, thus they, do attract and receive higher budgets, better teaching staff, smaller classes as well as first-class facilities across the board, the results being that the entry to these schools for pupils extremely competitive academically. In truth, it is a revamp of the old Grammar School system... Smokies post above squarely hits the nail on the head. For more than four centuries, Huntingdon has enjoyed continuous education provision, starting with Huntingdon Grammar School in what is now the Cromwell Museum.
The school, which taught the likes of Oliver Cromwell and Samuel Pepys, was founded in 1565. It moved to premises on Brampton Road in 1939 - on the day war was declared - before moving once more, somewhat controversially at the time, into its current home at Hinchingbrooke House.
P.S. The images below is where it all started for me in 1949, no longer a school but now the village community centre, a new and wonderful life for the old school.

Ha ha, not too used to the metaphor or allegory lately, thus blushing furiously. On the "we had it rough" bit I am keeping my powder dry. I went to a grammar school, I remember one comprehensive at that time, but presumably anyone who had the choice would have gone to a grammar. I don't remember which year everything went comp or if England (and Wales) had a different year to John Knox country. Smokie speaks as though he is a London dweller but refers to kids having highers, no wonder I get confused.

Yes I realise he is a dour son of the land of heather, gloaming and white sausage. I remember well his stalwart efforts on the hustings for the freedom of the glens etc (but we'll not dwell om that). I was just a bit surprised to hear someone who waxes lyrical about Seven Sisters Road refer to "highers".

You can blame that tory bastid BLIAR and his way of massaging the dole figures, get the dumb kids from sink estates off the dole and into uni, brings the dole figures down and leaves these kids with debts they will probably never pay off. Dont tell me a 2:2 from poly is the same as a joint honours from some proper uni. Heck even the Thais know this, Ram or Chula, up to you. Some of these places are nothing more than money making machines for Chinese kids and parents with more money than sense. The Indian/Thai bird I knew, knew her stuff, educated at Gordonstoun and Edinburgh Uni. Its got to the stage now, a mickey mouse uni degree is bacically worthless, new money making scam, an mba.

I see rgs, so you are saying that smokie is one of those with a joke degree and a big loan hanging round his neck. Explains a few things.
There is a message here, I think it behoves all of us to treat him with more kindness, understanding and respect than has possibly been the case in the past.
On the other hand if they feel like it people can just take the p**s, nobody can stop them.
Well I have done my best to help, can not do any more than that.
And where's facking rubl?
