"Immi at CW must have a folder for me about two foot high" Probably difficult to compare, but I've been on non-B with work permit since 1995. I guess that means I've earned my own filing cabinet by now. That's assuming they still have all 'filed' somewhere

That's assuming they still have all 'filed' somewhere I have seen in immi at CW, a folder being pushed around in a luggage trolley, got to love those immi women, I once forgot something, the woman said no problem, and dispathced one of the red vested helpers to dig out my folder, she found what she was looking for and photocopied it, and added to my ever increasing file. Thought you being a geek or cybernerd would have your own cloud file by now, .

No problem and not disagreeing with you, heck I have been there myself, mortgage rates almost doubling overnight in the UK. People know what they know, I find it difficult to call someone stupid just because I know something they don't, the term is relative.

A bit harsh AyG don't you think! The man doesn't have your financial or investment savvy but he is permitted to try and chase his dreams. He's not sponging off the state and he's not asking for "gofund me" money but he is typical of several generations of Brits who were never educated in financial matters and who are now being squeezed. A little compassion and understanding wouldn't go amiss. It seems schadenfreude is easier, liberally coated wth bile and spite. There must be many in similar circumstances, looking at a bleak future.

I went to the old (near) Sathorn offices quite few years back to renew my retirement visa, I was in the middle of moving from Phuket to Chiang Mai and was spending a couple of weeks in Bangkok. The woman at Immi. said, why you come here, what you done in Phuket, you done something bad so you can't go....chuckle chuckle, then she renewed my visa! Yes yes yes I know, retirement visa's are extended not renewed...tell ya what, you do what you like and I'll do what I like.

Do you really think that ignorance is a defence? Anybody with a couple of brain cells to rub together should at least do some sort of research and planning before permanently moving to a country thousands of miles from home, and even a modicum of research would have revealed that his plan was wildly unrealistic. As for chasing his dreams, I have no idea what they were or are, but generally speaking, for people who are attracted to living in Pattaya, I'd suggest that chemical castration, in the long run, is a cheaper option. We could blame it on the education system, the class system or even the North/South divide and any of those might be appropriate, it depends how far back or deep you want to go into finding the root cause. But just saying he's stupid isn't a useful answer because our assumptions about their education and upbringing aren't necessarily valid! A 40 something year old real estate agent in the North was telling me recently that her job is to vet tenants who want to rent property to see if they can afford it, many don't understand they can't hence doing the vetting up front saves problems for all parties downstream. She went on to explain that even she didn't know what a mortgage was until she got into the real estate business ten years ago, as difficult as that might be to comprehend. So does that make her stupid or simply poorly educated or an average northerner? As for Pattaya: well, it's Morecambe or Blackpool with better food, slimmer women but much hotter, does that mean all residents of Morecambe and Blackpool should be chemically castrated also.....wait a minute, maybe...!
In many ways you can compare Blackpool with Pattaya for entertainment. The biggest difference of course is the sex industry which is at the heart of Pattaya's entertainment.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Pattaya's Pleasure Beach provide very different rides
Blackpool's "Kiss Me Quick" hats are very different from the hats worn short time in Pattaya.

It's not easy to get a decent pint in the North, all the best real ale is from the South, London Pride, Abbots, Ruddles etc. There's far too many places serving craft ale these days and this is just not to my liking at all, one otherwise decent pub near my flat offers ten different beers but none of them are worth ordering. In the South you have places such as Ringwood in Hants which is home to the RIngwood Brewery, Old Thumper, now there's a real real ale. five pints of Old Thumper and your body's all wrapped up and snuggling in bed before your head has even left the pub.

BrewYork Oakham etc all brewing great beers....loads of independent breweries in the north really so you need to be checking out pubs which are included in the CAMRA guide. And no I am not a bearded CAMRA half pint and a free pie for a review sort.

The Pound gained 2% on news of a potential Brexit agreement path. That combined with a strong desire by BOT to reign in THB might mean there's light at the end of the Brit expat in Thailand tunnel and/or that now is a good time to crystalise any gains for those needing GBP. Food for thought perhaps.

Mostly followed by accusations and BoJo's "do and die" 31st of October "we'll leave". My advise? Unless you're a professional (speculating with other people's money) I'd say to feel free to speculate if you have some money you wouldn't mind losing and/or can afford to lose.

Nice to see GBP strengthening against THB, less good is the effect of that strengthening on UK investment fund valuations, grrrr!

'Twould seem as if all is not well with the German economy which may well affect the Euro. Such an event could well increase the value of the pound sterling, of course there is the possibility it may have a negative influence on the pound sterling. We shall have to wait and see what Brexit may bring forth plus of course what the currency traders do in their gambling pits, those two situations may or will affect certainly in the short term both the Euro and the pound sterling, long term affects well, let's wait and see... Anyone here who has any idea of futures in the Conch Shell market? www.spectator.co.uk/2019/10/germanys-ailing-economy-cant-afford-a-no-deal-brexit/
