It would seem that the fluctuation in value of GBP versus other currencies is mostly related to the 'ups and down' in the status of brexit. Hard brexit drops the GBP, rumour of a deal raises the GBP.
As such the GBP / THB exchange rate is mostly in line with the increase in value of the Thai Baht against other currencies. Again frequent fluctuations 'up-and-down' seem brexit related.

Except....the common denominator in all of that is the relationship of those currencies with USD.
And with Brexit, this time it really is different. Saxo Bank estimates an 8% surge in the value of GBP if a Brexit deal is agreed, that will be a surge against the value of USD that no other currency will experience directly.

End of June 2016 the day before the referendum result became known the GBP stood at 1.4877 to the US$. Today it's 1.264.
BTW at first I'd think a gain against the US$ would (should?) be matched with a gain against the Euro. Not sure yet how that works out though. With GBP/THB we now have 38.491 which is a nice improvement over the less than 37 not too long ago.

I was hoping rgs or SirPolee might take pity and invite me over for Sunday lunch.
Seems I was wrong but not to worry it means I can drink all of those nice Aussie Barossa wines I imported all by myself.

Alas, I have just seen your ''hope post,'' today was a serious in-depth grandson and granddaughter duty day, indeed a wonderful time when we dine upon the most exotic and wondrous strange vittals for sprogs.
However tomorrow, Monday being a non-workday, I purchased a nice collection of four beef steaks earlier this day from Foodland which are now residing in the fridge waiting for the morrow.
They will be the dinner host along with roast potatoes, ,brussel sprouts from our local market here on Soi Mankhon (Dragon Soi) ( brussel sprouts being one of my favourite vegetables) and thick Bisto gravy for for lunch. irrespective of the fluctuations of the pound we are comfortable.
I shall think of you when we dine smokie.

My first post in this place was about when i should move major amounts of money over considering exchange rates.
I got some GREAT advice. I was basically told to move it over NOW. I did not do that of course.
This is going to cause problems too, believe me, and not problems as in "oh, we lost a little extra money". Bigger problems than that. The more it slides, the larger those problems will get.
What good is life without a little gambling?

Except....the common denominator in all of that is the relationship of those currencies with USD. Strangely I seem to remember posting almost exactly the same comment on TVF some years ago. For my efforts I was rubbished by a poster named "changmai" in a long, meandering post full of red herrings and contradictions. No relation to our changers I am sure.

Almost man flu this one.

If the mighty $ was getting 100 baht, no one would be complaining. As an expat I have been dealing with this for more years than I care to remember, as was explained to me years ago, if you cant handle currency rates, maybe expat life isnt for you.

As you well know, Sunday in Thailand is aka family day, you aint family, so ferk off. For the record, I had a lovely bowl of chilli con carne with a couple of baked potatoes, followed by netflix, the apostle, well worth a watch.
