More like state of denial, followed by state of death. Thailand must open up quick....since there is almost zero economic relief for its citizens.

I'll bow to your superior knowledge on these things but I'm slightly surprised to hear you say that, at some point savings lives becomes more important than income, I think. It's all well and good for the UK to reach zero new cases and then decide they will open up, but with serious restrictions. I'm not sure the UK economy can function with those restrictions in place so whilst they may have freedom they still wont have economic growth....I think.

This from a previous post of mine here is a fine example of the way the whole issue has been and is being dealt with by a panel of worldwide ''experts'' and the effects it has had. Note now Greta Thunberg is now on the CNN advisory committee. Ye gods indeed the (snake oil) lunatics are running the asylum. Greta Thunberg sparked controversy after telling CNN viewers to follow the guidance of experts as the world combats coronavirus – even as the teen panelist admitted she’s not an authority on the health crisis. CNN came under fire after announcing that the Swedish teen would participate in a Covid-19 town-hall event hosted by Anderson Cooper and CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr Sanjay Gupta. Critics of the decision to include Thunberg argued that the climate activist was not qualified to speak about the pandemic. Judging by Thunberg’s remarks during the discussion, it appears she at least partly agrees with her detractors. “People are starting to realize that we are actually depending on science and that we need to listen to scientists and experts,” the 17-year-old said during the panel discussion. Her message sparked considerable displeasure on social media. Conservative commentator Mark Dice jokingly suggested that CNN should interview a 12-year-old who has a lemonade stand about financial relief legislation. Others chided CNN for becoming an “Onion-type” news organization by allowing Thunberg on the panel. The Swede also used the occasion to underline how the pandemic was affecting children – claiming that Covid-19 has created a “children’s rights crisis” because the worldwide response has focused too heavily on safeguarding the elderly. In April, she donated a $100,000 prize she won to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), arguing that children may ultimately suffer the most from the social and economic consequences of the pandemic. Thunberg tweeted before the town hall that she has never claimed to be an expert, stating for the record that she is an “activist” and would use the panel to discuss her campaign supporting UNICEF. www.rt.com/news/488709-greta-thunberg-cnn-coronavirus-reactions/?utmtwitter.com/i/status/1261122735805251584

Sunday Malls open, curfew shortened to 11PM - 4AM. Not sure about inter province travelling though.

As if comparing H1N1 and COVID-19 deaths really helps. 2009 12,500 death in the USA over ONE year. 2020 85,000 deaths over 1-1/2 month. COVID-19 high infection rate, 3/4 older than 65 or so. H1N1 USA slow start but solid finish, COVID-19 USA 'it will go away'. Be brave, especially our older members. Go out, get coughed on, live your life in the full. "When I went down to Mexico during the height of the H1N1 epidemic, instead of sitting and looking at statistics, I made rounds. Almost all of the people on respirators were in their 20s and were obese or pregnant, and that is really unusual. Seeing patients helps you get accurate numbers and clinical data. You have to be there. What's different, I think, is that COVID-19 is going to turn out to be an equal-opportunity virus with a high risk for bad outcomes for the elderly, newborns, babies and people who are immunosuppressed. Like H1N1 and seasonal flus, COVID-19 is highly communicable. What's different is it has 10 times greater mortality rates than the seasonal flu." medicalxpress.com/news/2020-03-covid-h1n1-viral-outbreaks.html"Partly false claim: COVID-19 and H1N1 numbers compared; the public was “totally chill” during the H1N1 pandemic of 2009-2010 while COVID-19 is causing “mass hysteria” Iterations of a post make the claims that under President Donald Trump, there have been 1,329 U.S. cases of COVID-19 and 38 deaths, provoking “mass hysteria” while under President Barack Obama there were 60.8 million U.S. cases of H1N1 and 12,469 deaths, with a “totally chill” level of response (here ). On March 11, 2020, Reuters reported there had so far been over 1,300 documented cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. and 38 deaths (here). It is likely that the COVID-19 numbers in this claim stem from this date." www.reuters.com/article/uk-factcheck-h1n1-totally-chill-idUSKBN2172HT

Not to politicise the issue but this is one of the reasons why Trump is so dangerous, other countries are emulating his behaviour and strategies. I see this morning that The Lancet has taken the unprecedented step of calling on all Americans to vote out their President because of his handling of the virus crisis, way to go Lancet.

It is based upon whole world scene, not just America Yes of course, but using the US as an example suggests that the profile and impact of the the two viruses is very different. The question is whether emergence of the coronavirus warrants shutting down the global economy. It doesn't seem that you can contain a virus in any particular country such as the UK or the US unless there is some form of isolation and medical science needs time that such an action buys us in order to understand the seriousness of the problem et al. I vote that the action is worthwhile and that there may in fact be positive unintended consequence as a result, I'm thinking along the lines of people/countries realising that pollution can and should be better managed, as should debt. If nothing else, Trump's appalling handling of the crisis should see him voted out of office, all things being equal (which of course they are not), I see that as a major victory that is worth the price paid.

Since I don't have a Smart Phone I guess I don't even have to try to visit a Mall. Lucky me "Shoppers tracked as they return to malls Shoppers returned to malls on Sunday after they were allowed to reopen following the improving situation of the coronavirus outbreak in the country. They are required to load the Thai Chana mobile app to their mobile phones for check-in and check-out at shops. The app has been created to collect visitor records in shops and also provide details such as opening hours and visitor limits among others. Shops are also required to register with Thai Chana." www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1919612/shoppers-tracked-as-they-return-to-malls

We went to the mall yesterday but only to visit a favourite restaurant. An hour after arriving at the mall I'd had my temperature taken 26 times and there was a one eighth inch layer of hand gel covering my hands and arms, I couldn't even hold the knife and fork because they kept sliding out of my hands. And would sir like the desert, the lithe young thing asked, wait, I'll just check your temperature first she said, again.
I exaggerate but you get the picture.

Just coming back from a short 'around the corner' to my local 7-11. Now they had a list where you had to write name and telephone number. On the table an explanatory note in Thai and English saying 'government requirement'. I guess soon we'll solve the unemployment problem by hiring people who have to key-in the collected data. That's assuming they can decipher it
