Where's yours? I have a few contenders, including Chiang Mai - but I think the one place that wins out above all overs is - Doi Mae Salong. It's has a stunning, Alpine beauty - with beautiful tea plantations rolling over the hillsides. Amazing.

Just as a matter of interest, how many provinces off the farang trail have you visited, this may well be your favourite place til now.
What did you think of, Loei, Nakon Nayok, Chantaburi, Rayong, or Kan?
Ever been to wang nam kiaw up at Kao yai?

Anywhere that isn't crowded. I'm more than happy in my home village. Even with the disfunctional in laws.

Wandering round the farm in deepest Surin Amphur Sangkha near the Kampuchea border just making sure the leaves on the trees move when the wind blows and the birds flap their wings when flying.Nary a white man or woman around, surrounded by nature and the natives.

Would that image above denote that in truth you may actually be a vampire as you seem to be resting in a typical Vampire batlike position? I reckon it's all that red meat in the kitchen that does it, methinks if eating at your place I might go vegetarian as opposed to possibly cannibalistic!!

What did you think of, Loei, Nakon Nayok, Chantaburi, Rayong, or Kan? Ever been to wang nam kiaw up at Kao yai? Loei I enjoyed - the drive there is stunning, and that beautiful wide open valley as you reach the town is something to behold. The Kan raft festival in September is something to behold. I've not been to Rayong, I was led to believe it is firmly on the tourist trail and something to behold. Lamphun and Lampang are decent enough towns, Mae Taen is more natural than Mae Rim, which is a de facto tourist resort. Phrao, Fang and Chiang Dao are more my cup of tea - with Tha Ton being another favourite. I've been all over northern Thailand, including of course, Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. I can't remember most of the names of the small towns up there, however I suppose I'd remember if I looked the guide book I wrote for Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. The flight into Mae Hong Son is top class, and the flight out of Pai an experience - while the road between is something again, to experience. Phitsanulok is underrated, as are the Northern plateaus. Udon Thani is fine, as is Nong Khai. Ubon Ratchathani is underrated too. KK is fine too I suppose, but I do prefer more country style living. Hat Yai is a hell hole, Songhkla is decent enough if you like young Muslims yelling at you in the street. Nonthaburi is a bit boring - but I suppose the tourist trail places of BKK, Patts, Phuket, Koh Samui and the like all have their advantages. Utturadit is on my things to do list, as is Rayong and Chantaburi, however they can wait until after I've been to Japan and Burma. I'll be spending a month between both countries on my next trip. Maybe Taiwan too - I'll see how I feel.

I like it all. Not 1 place I don't like. I like the village, lovely view over rice fields and mountains, about 5 in the afternoon it's great sitting on the porch with a beer while the sun sets. Another place is the village soup kitchen, Great place to meet the locals and some 20 baht soup. The Ton Taan night market in KK is the greatest market ever and would be hard to find any better.
Yet to find anywhere I dislike in the whole country, although there's a few that 2 days is enough.

Burma, its what many think they will find when they come to Thailand, get there quick before it gets ruined the way Thailand has.
