1985 or 1986 flying KLM from Amsterdam to Montreal and upgraded from business to first class. Champagne before you're even seated. Happened only once but was very nice Nice one, I will see your first class and raise you, bet it wasnt on this, happened only once, right place at the right time, met up with an old mate, rgs you old effer how you doing, what the eff shithead, blah blah blah. Asked me if i was busy in the afternoon and could i get a few hours off, no problem said i. Wasnt a flight as such, more of an air test/engine test, flight shakedown, probably one of the few to have sat in the seat wearing stinking smelly overalls. , the good old days. www.bbc.com/future/article/20200615-the-record-breaking-jet-which-still-haunts-a-countryen.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAC_TSR-2AS for planes, airlines and flying I've only ever been a customer. You on the other hand have been working in that industry. I have no doubt you could tell us stories which would make lesser people immediately switch to other forms of transport. The worst I had was a bird in an engine of a 747 at take off from Amsterdam Airport en-route to Montreal (a few years I was involved in products from a development group there). SOP to start circling and dump fuel. An hour (or was it hours?) later back on the ground. Luckily a plane became available quickly. Lost six hours at the most.

If I do still have to leave, it'll hopefully be more like 2 months, and Emirates are starting flights next week. Thai can sod their 25,000 one way.

I would sometimes pick up Mrs CM V2.0 from her job at T4 and would be in the staff car park at 4:30pm, just in time to see CC take off and set off all the car burglar alarms, an impressive sight and an even more impressive set of sounds.

AS for retirement I'm reminded of that old joke where it is questioned why so many men don't live long after retiring.
Picture with husband holding some paper with schedules telling wife
"Well, after just a week at home, I've come up with a comprehensive list on how to do things more efficiently around here, honey ..."

Dear Uncle, I can assure you, its not all wine and roses, days like that dont come round often, only happened because I bumped into a former colleague who had moved onto bigger and better things, he was a flight engineer on concorde. Normal humdrum life, lying on your back on a effin freezing hangar floor banging in rivets, or outside in all weathers, rain hail sleet and snow, and a effin gale force wind blowing. Mind you every so often you come into contact with stars or celebrities, gary numan was one, hell of a nice guy, even after the lads slagged him off and called him a slaphead and complimented him on his syrup.

Saw the CC take off from Heathrow early eighties. Freezing bloody cold at some ungodly hour in the morning, but well worth it. I flew first class (in the bubble) JAL once Tokyo Sydney. Just me, no-one else, upgraded. The girls invited me to "breakfast" at the Hilton on arrival, but alas I had other concrete plans. Never mind.

I was upgraded to first on all four legs of the HK/BKK/LHR return trip but not in the bubble, first was in the nose, about twenty feet further forward than the pilots, a strange feeling. Seat 1A gives you four windows to gaze out of in a panorama....nice.

Progress with immigration. Sopha called to say we have the 400K. They told her the 2 months rule. She said please give him 60 days, explaining she was in recovery from her recent hysterectomy. They said OK.

After the good news from Mosha (congrats old chap) back to flying, or rather not flying. Seems the (self-)quarantine and isolation and the alternatives companies have come up with to continue doing business will not only stay with us but mean less flying. Of course, there maybe an opportunity in that for all IT Security experts. Now please excuse me for a moment, I'm dusting off some certificates and updating my CV
