The complexities of the societal structure in Thailand reaches into area that are not always easily discussed.
Corruption though is sadly endemic, which punishes those further down the food chain

I been up in the Fang area, onto Doi Angkang. The conditions people have to live in are bloody awful. In one village on the top (forget the name now) I spoke to village elders who had been born there and never been able to leave...60 years old some were.. The Thais should of done something to help them asimmilate. No good "hearing stories" OP...get up there and see for youself. @nigelfarage (what a crap name you gone & picked, man) Having seen them raggy-arsed kids up there, it make you want to do something, so can you message me some details of this sponsourship stuff? Ta. The guy you need to speak to is JS, ex army officer who speaks fluent Thai, has lived here for years. Be aware, you may not like the answers you get. Check out the history of the,....... why bother, nothing ever changes

A poor person is only suffering because of the sins of a previous life, hence no compassion in this life. A rich person is being rewarded for the good deeds done in a previous life.

And there lies the central problem. It's quite mental when viewed from a position of relative sanity.

The main problem for the Hill Tribes is they don't have Thai ID's therefore they have little access to education and healthcare under the 30 Baht scheme. Regarding the rest of rural Thailand. Girl gets pregnant dumps the kid with Granny and goes on the game or into some Dickensian factory job gutting chickens or suchlike. So junior gets brought up in an uneducated environment and repeats the circle.

Rob very true it's not impossible for them to get Thai ID's but a lot of rural folk can't read and there's always shenanigans going on. Good on you Rob for doing what you can.

Yes - that's true. My particular interest is the Mountain People element - that's why I'm inquiring about the state of play in the rest of the country. Good to see theblether again here! Blether, It's been too long. Stay here with us, please. Those mountain people should be protected by a greater force. There should be...

Anyone heard about what happens if twins are born in those mountain tribes? I heard a rumour and it's not a pretty one. Something along the lines of only 1 twin can live because of some belief.

What about sex education and contraception? From puberty. Some think that a girl of eleven or twelve can never get pregnant - of course she can. And boys should be taught to respect girls and not just use them as a plug for their penises and if the poor child gets pregnant take responsibility for the girl and child. But then i live in a la la land with angels and unicorns and butterflies fluttering around green meadows. I think you are fibbiing. Only virgins can see unicorns. The rest of your post though is spot on and essential.
