^^ I have no bone to pick with you as far as writing for yourself is concerned. I applaud it. Our contention is that you stated "no writer ever write for money." I think you can see the absurdity in that statement now. As for writing novels? it's not easy, it's a skill that is beyond me at the moment - that's why I get help from professionals. That's why I pay for content editing, that's why I pay for editing, that's why I pay for proof reading, and it's also why I ask people to give me feedback before release. Am I a great writer? no - and I'll never pretend to be. I'm an enthusiastic amatuer that has lucked out by earning decent money from my hobby. Good for me. What's also good for me is that I know I don't need to conform to the views of the deluded. I was careless, no artist would write for money.
Dickens did, but he had an agenda , what that was you can decide!!!!!
So Lamb. sorry Elia with his roast pork was not an artist?

www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/296/Thank you all for the discussion. Kipling , well I have read little and admit his reputation has prevented me from choosing to read more. At a time when literature was finding new boundaries, his conservative style, though admirable in its craft , added to his extensive travels which should have provided him with a wider perspective (opinion), but he harks back to an Imperialistic past. I agree, that is my opinion and I do not doubt his skills. At the same time, the Bloomsbury group, yes lefty liberals, were opening floodgates in style and critique. To publish or not to publish, that is a question. For money? For ego? To hope you might change the course of history? To share? I have nothing new to share.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mrs_DallowayOne day, stream of consciousness, can be read in a day. No plot, no need to anticipate the conclusion. Written by an elite about the world she observed. No agenda. A poem in essence.

I am reliably informed that this volume shown in the image below is mandatory reading for all the mods in the other place.(well those that can read.) If there is an inability to read the mods are informed orally and are then introduced to and subjected to a basic ''learn to read programme'' as the video clip below clearly shows.

So - let me clarify Writers don't write for money - Artists don't want to be paid either? So the multi-billion pound book industry relies upon the charity of writers - And the arts too - I just want to clarify what's being said here so that I can recalibrate my moron meter.

It is a relatively new function of art.
Artists in the past were of wealth and did not rely on commisions.
Of course they accepted patronage in many cases.
Women, outside the "system" certainly did not write for renumeration.
They were educated because of their inherited wealth.
To create for money is a prostitution of self!!!!!

Women didn't write for money because of inherited wealth? To write for money is prostitution of self? I'm appalled - I know of hundreds of women that make a full time living from writing. You should be ashamed of yourself for spouting such misogynistic drivel.

Change direction.
Why?
I don't know.
Back to my comment about prostitution.
We are all prostitutes for money!!!!!
My wife was a prostitute, so were the two before her, but not by social standards!!!!!!!
My best friend is a prostitute, we can relate!!!!!! Titian, yes that Venetian artist, prostituted hgimself, but the joke was on his patrons.
Mona Lisa, why Leonardo's treasured possesion?
Write on!!!!!!!
