Of the coup - money isn't everything.
The famed Monkey Club in Chiang Mai was forced to close on Feb 28 due to noise complaints. This was a place that was turning over between 500 - 700,000 baht a week - and the owner tried to sell it for 60 million baht last year. Serious money -
But the money couldn't buy protection post-coup. The little office on the second-floor where the bar owners queued up once a month to show their gratitude couldn't help them. The BiB were beaten by the real big boys. And there, it now lies idle.
Once the home of the beautiful set - the smart set - padlocked and fading away.
