So they now have a private 'Women Living in Southeast Asia' forum, a 'Ladies in Thailand' sub forum and a 'Gay people in Thailand' sub forum but when we tried to get a 'TGAU' and 'Gerbil' sub forum we were laughed at. Thank god that Frank isn't over there, as a heterosexual male he would feel very bullied. Not ladyboys Tony, this one hahahaha. I know a few 'ladies' with a very deep voice.

Me and a friend (a sweaty from Aberdeen) were walking past after leaving Blacksmith's Arms (so around 1993) when the LB tried to accost me by grabbing my nuts. I tried to drop the nut on it but missed badly causing said LB to start fighting back. I went into hysterics and couldn't do anything because the laughter took over. Basically I decided to run off when the LB's backup showed up.
Chungking was always a great place to get into a scrape.

Oh lord, this has now got me reminiscing about the old bars in HK. I was in The Blacksmith's Arms the night that it closed, I was in The Red Lion when it closed (the real Red Lion, when Joycie was the boss) and also for the last night in The White Stag (the original Canton Road bar).
Had some great memories in the old LKF in Scotties and Yelts Inn.
Honourable mentions for The Wanch, Flying Pig, China Jump, New Makati, Rick's Cafe, Big Apple and of course Bottoms up.

Are you an old HK hand Tony? I never knew that. Bottoms Up, featured in James Bond, who could forget that? Joe Bananas, Mes Amies, we knocked around the same traps then Tony. Wanchai rocks.

Basically I decided to run off when the LB's backup showed up. Chungking was always a great place to get into a scrape. An Australian pal of mine tells a great story - one evening he was walking towards Spicy when he saw a German guy berating a ladyboy - usual homophobic stuff. My pal intervened and hunted the guy, telling him among many expletives it wasn't his place or country to talk to people like that. This guy is a real p*sshead, when he goes for a drink he ain't happy till he's blootered. Two nights later he, by his own admission, was drunk and incapable, and decided to go home from the upper level at Spicy. He fell down the stairs, but the rubber man kicked in - he wasn't injured. He was half-carried to a tuk-tuk, and when he got in, he asked how much it was to go home ( normally 80 baht ) - the driver said 200 baht. Refusing, and dragging himself out of the tuk-tuk, my drunken pal pulled the indicator bar off the tuk-tuk. Cue, threats, demands - two other drivers joining in, and my pal saying - "I can remember swaying in front of these three guys, readying myself for getting a kicking." From the shadows emerges the Ladyboy plus female pal, who paid driver one 300 baht to fix his light, and for some reason the other two 200 baht each to shut up and leave it alone. The now happy threesome then went back to my pals room where funny cigarettes were shared and a good time was had by all. He won't admit to how good a time. Karma?

Chunking Mansion, walking around there with an Aussie uni friend of mine who had a few beers, looking for this Indian place in there. About five scantily dressed Japanese 'ladies of the night' came up and were talking to this other guy in fron of us. Uncle James who was a bit p**sed shouted out 'Fukking Japanse' ( way out of line racist even though they did bomb Ozland) anyway, out of the shadows this seven foot tall Japanese sumo type looking guy emerged who was their 'minder'.
We ran, or rather he ran and I smiled and walked away very fast.

Many years ago worked on the Tsing Ma Bridge, Kap Shui Mon Bridge and Chep Lap Kok. Had a great time in Honkers and earned a great deal of readies but got down with the changing attitudes leading upo to and after the handover. Went back about 5 years ago and that attitude has now gone, had a great time. Only been in Joe Bananas once, was full of pretentious Cathay Pilots. Used to live in Mui Wo (Lantau) so Papa Docs and later The China Bear became my usual haunts.

Three squares a day consisted of a pint of wifebeater (Carlsberg) and a steak sandwich from the local Ka Ka Lok.

Carlesberg would have to be my beer of choice when out with friends.
