Yeah, I recall Beefys, if I recall correctly it closed around 1993. it would have been 90/91 I was there.. Where was Friar Tucks ? maybe wrong but got in my head down stairs in the Marco Polo...?....my time in HK in those days was a very blurry time indeed

I just about recall Friar Tucks but can't remember where it was. Another great place was The Tiger Bar on Ashley Road (in a basement).

I'm joining. Getting my sister to answer the phone.
My plan was to have the name Metisdead, but since Metis is a slang name for Canadian aborigines, therefore saying they're all dead would just be a seriously racist a- hole name to use, I'll reconsider. Dannyduckpoo will suffice.

Carlesberg would have to be my beer of choice when out with friends. In the early 90s there were only 3 draft beers available in the majority of HK bars and a very small selection of canned beers. The draft beers were Carlsberg, San Miguel and Tiger Beer. Drinking Carlsberg was not a lifestyle choice, it was the only choice. Then in the mid 90s it all started to change. All sorts of beer started appearing in Honk Kong, in draft, cans and bottles. I even managed to track down a steady supply of Newcastle Brown Ale in Wan Chai. Stella Bob then appeared on the scene and bought us draft Stella and Hoegaarden (not my drink though). A western run micro brewery started up and delighted us with such brews as ‘Red Dawn’ and ‘Dragon’s Back’ www.hkbeerco.com (I had a barrel of each for my handover party). Gone are the days when I would wake up in a gutter of Ashley Road with a can of 7-11’s finest Tsing Tao in my hand.

From the early days when I arrived early 2001, sky's the limit on what you can buy beer wise. Ever tried a 'Depth Charger? That's a shot of Benedictine in a pint of Guiness. Guaranteed to blow your socks off.

Interesting fact about Benedictine, the world's biggest consumer of French Benedictine liqueur is a working men's club in Burnley (Lancashire). www.lancashireinfantrymuseum.org.uk/the-accrington-pals-and-the-benedictine-connection-or-a-bene-and-ot/

<Bunny boiler>, have you been to the Micro Brewery? One of the brewers when it opened lived near me and he informed me that they were holding brewery tours, so I went on two of them. The second time was with my parents when they were visiting for the handover period. Great evening out and a good chance to try some new niche beers.

Tipping Point and Young Master Ales I've been to. HK has quite a big following for micro breweries, it has become quite trendy to go to a beer bar and many have sprung up over the yeas. micro Brewery I don't know that one. You were there before my time and since then huge changes with the way people drink/go out/socialize and the direction drinking holes has taken. Avoid places full of stuck up bankers, pilots, drunk tourist like the plague.. Old Hand is another one. Uncle James ( my uni friend) and my husband haunt these places, I favour Mes Amies, Blue Bar, Ozone and a few other upscale wine places, not because I want to be seen but because there are less drunks and weirdos in them and good for a girl's night out. You don't want to go out and have sleazy men trying to pick you up.

The Old China Hand was another great bar but for different reasons. The OCH was where you had breakfast after an all night session. Breakfast was a 'Full English Breakfast' and a pint of wifebeater and was meant to help you recover, so that you could continue with an all day session.
I heard that the OCH was moving a few doors down earlier this year due to excessive rent demands.

The Flying Pan in Wanchai I always liked, had many great brekkies after a big night out washed down with beeeeeer. The thing is Tony, with young boys you don't go out so much. Old China Hand yes that one is a part of HK culture, the furniture so to speak. Not sure what's going on with that I haven't been in a while, I'll ask around. I met my husband in the Blue Bar btw, we had a 'pick up peanuts' with chopsticks competition and the rest is history.
So that one has to be my fave.

I demand, a black crippled lesbian vegan forum. What will you do if your demands are not met? Set a timescale....kill a few hostages...you need to put a bit more pressure on really. I've heard more threatening noises from a three year old who can't reach the biscuit tin.
