Phobias can be included in this.
For me it would have to be getting very old and ill and a burden to my family. Some terrible illness like dementia where I was losing my mind but wasn't aware of it.
Phobias- when I was a kid we had a cellar in Basel, one time I was down there with my mum and the power went out it was completely dark as no windows. I wasn't scared of the dark just felt like a very odd space to be in. Feeling around mum told me to stay still and of course being a kid I didn't. I bumped into this old hatstand with a dust cover on it and pulled it off. What appeared like hundreds of big flying cockroaches flew out in the dark. Landing on my face, body hair horrible I was screaming.
To this day cockroaches freak me out, even those little German ones.

I'm Trypanaphobic, which is the fear of needles. However, I don't really have a fear of needles as such but a huge fear of a needle entering the vein. I have tattoos and I would not fear getting one tomorrow (apart from the fact that I don't want any more) but tring to get blood out of me takes a lot of understanding and patience.
For my work permit medical I have to take a pill to knock me out so that they can draw blood. The weeks leading up to the medical are sheer hell for me, fears and bad dreams rule the day.
When I had Swine Flu about 5 years ago, even though it felt like I was dying I would not let them take a blood sample.
I can't watch anything on TV where a needle enters a vein, I have to close my eyes when it gets to such a scene.
Even thinking about it now is turning my stomach.
Maybe my fear/phobia is not normal but neither is putting objects into veins. .

When I had Swine Flu about 5 years ago, even though it felt like I was dying I would not let them take a blood sample. Maybe my fear/phobia is not normal but neither is putting objects into veins. . I worked with a guy who has exactly the same thing as you. Company took us for the medical and he was totally freaked out, almost hyperventilating. Some actually laughed and called him a pussy, which was inappropriate, I could see he was under great stress. It definitely wasn't the 'ouch they're going to draw blood' type of momentary anxiety. You had swine flu? H1N9? That's seriously serious, it killed around 63 people in Canton and many were ill in HK, some died. You pulled through knock on wood and all that, you and your family must have been traumatised by the experience.

I also get to the nearly hyperventilating stage, pussy, I doubt that. Also worth noting that Sonny Liston was and Jacky Chan is Trypanaphobic but the word pussy is not my first thought when their names are mentioned.
Swine flu was the worst illness that I ever had, I honestly thought that i was a gonner but honestly Sen, it wasn't as dramatic as your explanation. Still, wouldn't want it again.

Whatever strain of it it's a gawdawful thing. It mutated from H1N1 to H1N9 the super swine flu. My sons school they closed it down for a week because there were two suspected cases, not even confirmed that's how seriously they take it here.
As to that pussy comment made by those guys to my colleague they were ignorant out of line twats, told them so too.

Dementia wouldnt bother me, I would know nothing about it.
Lying on some money making machine hospital bed, being pumped full of drugs that are only delaying the inevitable would p**s me off.
I now understand why some people jump off condos.

I used to fear height (and still do to a degree) but then I worked on the Tsing Ma Suspension bridge. During the cable spinning period part of our job involved walking along the cables, which were either 300 to 100 meters above ground level, dependent where you were on the cable (tower top or in the middle). Underneath the cable was a safety walkway but it was still a scary walk when I first started there.
The strangest part was working at tower top. I would be on a platform 300 meters above ground level and not have a problem but if I went up a ladder on the platform I would suddenly feel very unsafe.

The HK observation wheel on Victoria Harbour is a blast. 60m above the ground and a rip off at HK100 for an adult but the ride is memorable. Took the boys up for a treat, best get on it at sunset or early evening to get the full effect of the lights.

Spiders don't freak me out, my boys had a defanged pet tarantula, unfortunately it died. It lived in a glass fishtank and Lola was spraying the living room for mosquitoes and poisoned it. We have since got another one. I enjoy sitting on the sofa playing Minecraft PS4 and having him run up my arm, it tickles.
